Gideon
1. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

2. And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
2. La main de Madian fut puissante contre Israël. Pour échapper à Madian, les enfants d`Israël se retiraient dans les ravins des montagnes, dans les cavernes et sur les rochers fortifiés.

3. And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

4. And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

5. For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
5. Car ils montaient avec leurs troupeaux et leurs tentes, ils arrivaient comme une multitude de sauterelles, ils étaient innombrables, eux et leurs chameaux, et ils venaient dans le pays pour le ravager.

6. And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.
6. Israël fut très malheureux à cause de Madian, et les enfants d`Israël crièrent à l`Éternel.

7. And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,
7. Lorsque les enfants d`Israël crièrent à l`Éternel au sujet de Madian,
7. Ary izao no niseho, raha nitaraina tamin' i Jehovah ny Zanak' Isiraely noho ny Midianita,
8. That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;
8. l`Éternel envoya un prophète aux enfants d`Israël. Il leur dit: Ainsi parle l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël: Je vous ai fait monter d`Égypte, et je vous ai fait sortir de la maison de servitude.

9. And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;
9. "Je vous ai délivrés de la main des Égyptiens et de la main de tous ceux qui vous opprimaient; je les ai chassés devant vous, et je vous ai donné leur pays."

10. And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
10. "Je vous ai dit: Je suis l`Éternel, votre Dieu; vous ne craindrez point les dieux des Amoréens, dans le pays desquels vous habitez. Mais vous n`avez point écouté ma voix."
10. "Ary hoy Aho taminareo: Izaho no Jehovah Andriamanitrareo; aza matahotra ny andriamanitry ny Amorita, izay tompon' ny tany onenanareo; nefa tsy nankatò ny feoko ianareo."
11. And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
11. Puis vint l`ange de l`Éternel, et il s`assit sous le térébinthe d`Ophra, qui appartenait à Joas, de la famille d`Abiézer. Gédéon, son fils, battait du froment au pressoir, pour le mettre à l`abri de Madian.
11. "Dia nisy Anjelin' i Jehovah tonga ka nipetraka teo ambanin' ny hazo oaka tao Ofra, izay an' i Joasy Abiezrita; ary Gideona zanany nively varimbazaha teo anilan' ny famiazam-boaloboka mba hafeniny amin' ny Midianita."
12. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
12. L`ange de l`Éternel lui apparut, et lui dit: L`Éternel est avec toi, vaillant héros!
12. Ary Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah niseho taminy ka nanao taminy hoe: Jehovah no momba anao, ry lehilahy mahery sy be herim-po.
13. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
13. Gédéon lui dit: Ah! mon seigneur, si l`Éternel est avec nous, pourquoi toutes ces choses nous sont-elles arrivées? Et où sont tous ces prodiges que nos pères nous racontent, quand ils disent: L`Éternel ne nous a-t-il pas fait monter hors d`Égypte? Maintenant l`Éternel nous abandonne, et il nous livre entre les mains de Madian!

14. And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

15. And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.
15. Gédéon lui dit: Ah! mon seigneur, avec quoi délivrerai-je Israël? Voici, ma famille est la plus pauvre en Manassé, et je suis le plus petit dans la maison de mon père.
15. Fa hoy izy taminy: Indrisy, Tompoko, amin' ny fomba ahoana no hamonjeko ny Isiraely? Indro, ny mpianakaviko dia mahantra eo amin' ny Manase, ary izaho no kely indrindra amin' ny ankohonan' ny raiko.
16. And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
16. L`Éternel lui dit: Mais je serai avec toi, et tu battras Madian comme un seul homme.
16. Dia hoy Jehovah taminy: Homba anao tokoa Aho, ka hamely ny Midianita toy ny famely olona iray ianao.
17. And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.
17. Gédéon lui dit: Si j`ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, donne-moi un signe pour montrer que c`est toi qui me parles.
17. Dia hoy izy taminy: Ankehitriny, raha mahita fitia eto imasonao ary aho, dia anehoy famantarana fa Ianao no miteny amiko.
18. Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.
18. Ne t`éloigne point d`ici jusqu`à ce que je revienne auprès de toi, que j`apporte mon offrande, et que je la dépose devant toi. Et l`Éternel dit: Je resterai jusqu`à ce que tu reviennes.

19. And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
19. Gédéon entra, prépara un chevreau, et fit avec un épha de farine des pains sans levain. Il mit la chair dans un panier et le jus dans un pot, les lui apporta sous le térébinthe, et les présenta.
19. Ary lasa niditra Gideona ka namboatra zanak' osy sy mofo tsy misy lalivay tamin' ny koba iray efaha, ka ny hena nataony tao anatin' ny harona, ary ny ron-kena nataony tao anatin' ny vilany, dia nentiny ho eo aminy teo ivelany teo ambanin' ilay hazo oaka izany ka natolony Azy.
20. And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
20. L`ange de Dieu lui dit: Prends la chair et les pains sans levain, pose-les sur ce rocher, et répands le jus. Et il fit ainsi.
20. Ary hoy Ilay Anjelin' Andriamanitra taminy: Raiso ny hena sy ny mofo tsy misy lalivay, ka apetraho eo ambonin' ity harambato ity, ary aidino ny ron-kena. dia nataony izany.
21. Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
21. L`ange de l`Éternel avança l`extrémité du bâton qu`il avait à la main, et toucha la chair et les pains sans levain. Alors il s`éleva du rocher un feu qui consuma la chair et les pains sans levain. Et l`ange de l`Éternel disparut à ses yeux.
21. "Ary naroson' Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah ny lohan' ny tehina izay teny an-tanany ka notendreny ny hena sy ny mofo tsy misy lalivay; dia nisy afo nivoaka avy tamin' ny vatolampy ka nandevona ny hena sy ny mofo tsy misy lalivay. Ary Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah dia lasa niala teo imasony."
22. And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.
22. Gédéon, voyant que c`était l`ange de l`Éternel, dit: Malheur à moi, Seigneur Éternel! car j`ai vu l`ange de l`Éternel face à face.
22. Ary rehefa hitan' i Gideona fa Anjelin' i Jehovah Izy, dia hoy Gideona: Adray! Jehovah Tompo ô! fa efa nahita Ilay Anjelin' i Jehovah nifanatrika aho.
23. And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
23. Et l`Éternel lui dit: Sois en paix, ne crains point, tu ne mourras pas.
23. "Fa hoy Jehovah taminy: Fiadanana anie ho anao; aza matahotra; tsy ho faty ianao tsy akory."
24. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
24. Gédéon bâtit là un autel à l`Éternel, et lui donna pour nom l`Éternel paix: il existe encore aujourd`hui à Ophra, qui appartenait à la famille d`Abiézer.
24. "Ary Gideona nanorina alitara teo ho an' i Jehovah, ary ny anarany nataony hoe: Jehovah-saloma; mbola ao Ofran' ny Abiezrita izany mandraka androany."
25. And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
25. Dans la même nuit, l`Éternel dit à Gédéon: Prends le jeune taureau de ton père, et un second taureau de sept ans. Renverse l`autel de Baal qui est à ton père, et abats le pieu sacré qui est dessus.
25. "Ary izao no niseho tamin' izany alina izany, dia hoy Jehovah taminy: Alao ny ombilahin-drainao, dia ilay ombilahy faharoa, izay efa fito taona, ka ravao ny alitaran' i Bala, izay an' ny rainao, ary kapao ny Aseraha eo anilany;"
26. And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
26. Tu bâtiras ensuite et tu disposeras, sur le haut de ce rocher, un autel à l`Éternel ton Dieu. Tu prendras le second taureau, et tu offriras un holocauste, avec le bois de l`idole que tu auras abattue.
26. Dia manorena alitara ho an' i Jehovah Andriamanitrao eto an-tampon' ity harambato ity, eo amin' ny toerana voatendry, ary alao ilay ombilahy faharoa, ka atero ho fanatitra dorana amin' ny hazon' ny Aseraha izay hokapainao.
27. Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father's household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
27. "Gédéon prit dix hommes parmi ses serviteurs, et fit ce que l`Éternel avait dit; mais, comme il craignait la maison de son père et les gens de la ville, il l`exécuta de nuit, et non de jour."
27. "Ary naka folo lahy tamin' ny mpanompony Gideona ka nanao araka izay efa nolazain' i Jehovah taminy; ary izao no zava-nisy, satria natahotra ny mpianakavin-drainy sy ny lehilahy tao an-tanàna izy, dia tsy afa-nanao izany tamin' ny antoandro fa tamin' ny alina no nanaovany azy."
28. And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.
28. Lorsque les gens de la ville se furent levés de bon matin, voici, l`autel de Baal était renversé, le pieu sacré placé dessus était abattu, et le second taureau était offert en holocauste sur l`autel qui avait été bâti.
28. Fa nony nifoha maraina koa ny lehilahy tao an-tanàna, ka, indro, efa rava ny alitaran' i Bala, sady voakapa ny Aseraha teo anilany, ary ilay ombilahy faharoa dia efa naterina teo ambonin' ny alitara izay natao,
29. And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
29. Ils se dirent l`un à l`autre: Qui a fait cela? Et ils s`informèrent et firent des recherches. On leur dit: C`est Gédéon, fils de Joas, qui a fait cela.
29. Dia nifanontany izy hoe: Iza re no nanao izao zavatra izao? Ary raha nifanontany sy nifamoaka teo izy, dia hoy ireo: Gideona, zanak' i Joasy no nanao izao zavatra izao.
30. Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
30. Alors les gens de la ville dirent à Joas: Fais sortir ton fils, et qu`il meure, car il a renversé l`autel de Baal et abattu le pieu sacré qui était dessus.
30. Dia hoy ny lehilahy tao an-tanàna tamin' i Joasy: Avoahy ny zanakao mba hovonoina, satria efa nandrava ny alitaran' i Bala izy sady efa nikapa ny Aseraha teo anilany.
31. And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
31. Joas répondit à tous ceux qui se présentèrent à lui: Est-ce à vous de prendre parti pour Baal? est-ce à vous de venir à son secours? Quiconque prendra parti pour Baal mourra avant que le matin vienne. Si Baal est un dieu, qu`il plaide lui-même sa cause, puisqu`on a renversé son autel.
31. "Ary hoy Joasy tamin' izay rehetra nitsangana teo anatrehany: Moa ianareo handahatra ho an' i Bala va? Ianareo va no hamonjy azy? Izay handahatra ho an' i Bala dia hatao maty raha mbola maraina ny andro; raha andriamanitra Bala, aoka handahatra ho an' ny tenany izy, fa nisy nandrava ny alitarany."
32. Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
32. Et en ce jour l`on donna à Gédéon le nom de Jerubbaal, en disant: Que Baal plaide contre lui, puisqu`il a renversé son autel.
32. Noho izany no nanaovany ny anarany tamin' izany andro izany hoe Jerobala, fa hoy izy: Aoka Bala no hifandahatra aminy, satria noravany ny alitarany.
33. Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
33. "Tout Madian, Amalek et les fils de l`Orient, se rassemblèrent; ils passèrent le Jourdain, et campèrent dans la vallée de Jizréel."
33. Ary ny Midianita rehetra sy ny Amalekita ary ny zanaky ny atsinanana nivory, dia nita ka nitoby teny amin' ny tany lemaka Jezirela.
34. But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.
34. "Gédéon fut revêtu de l`esprit de l`Éternel; il sonna de la trompette, et Abiézer fut convoqué pour marcher à sa suite."
34. Fa tonga tamin' i Gideona ny Fanahin' i Jehovah, dia nitsoka anjomara izy, ka nivory nanaraka azy ny Abiezera.
35. And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
35. Il envoya des messagers dans tout Manassé, qui fut aussi convoqué pour marcher à sa suite. Il envoya des messagers dans Aser, dans Zabulon et dans Nephthali, qui montèrent à leur rencontre.
35. Ary nandefa iraka nankany amin' ny Manase rehetra izy, dia nivory nanaraka azy koa ireo: ary nandefa iraka tany amin' ny Asera sy ny Zebolona ary ny Naftaly izy, dia niakatra hitsena azy ireo.
36. And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
36. Gédéon dit à Dieu: Si tu veux délivrer Israël par ma main, comme tu l`as dit,
36. Ary hoy Gideona tamin' Andriamanitra: Raha ny tanako no hamonjenao ny Isiraely araka izay efa nolazainao,
37. Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
37. "voici, je vais mettre une toison de laine dans l`aire; si la toison seule se couvre de rosée et que tout le terrain reste sec, je connaîtrai que tu délivreras Israël par ma main, comme tu l`as dit."
37. Indro, hapetrako eo amin' ny famoloana ity volon' ondry iray manontolo ity, ka raha ny volon' ondry ihany no lenan' ny ando, fa maina ny tany rehetra eo anilany, dia ho fantatro fa ny tanako no hamonjenao ny Isiraely araka izay efa nolazainao.
38. And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
38. Et il arriva ainsi. Le jour suivant, il se leva de bon matin, pressa la toison, et en fit sortir la rosée, qui donna de l`eau plein une coupe.
38. "Ary dia nisy izany; fa nifoha maraina koa izy, ka nofiazany ny volon' ondry ary nisy ranon' ando eran' ny tsangambava."
39. And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
39. Gédéon dit à Dieu: Que ta colère ne s`enflamme point contre moi, et je ne parlerai plus que cette fois: Je voudrais seulement faire encore une épreuve avec la toison: que la toison seule reste sèche, et que tout le terrain se couvre de rosée.
39. "Ary hoy Gideona tamin' Andriamanitra: Aoka tsy hirehitra amiko ny fahatezeranao fa hiteny izao indray mandeha izao aho: Mifona aminao aho, aoka mba hizahako izao indray mandeha izao monja ny amin' ny volon' ondry; aoka ny volon' ondry ihany no ho maina, fa ny tany rehetra no ho lenan' ny ando."
40. And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
40. Et Dieu fit ainsi cette nuit-là. La toison seule resta sèche, et tout le terrain se couvrit de rosée.
40. Dia nataon' Andriamanitra izany tamin' ny alin' iny, ka ny volon' ondry ihany no maina, fa ny tany rehetra kosa dia lenan' ny ando.
