Danites Settle in Laish
1. In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
1. "En ce temps-là, il n`y avait point de roi en Israël; et la tribu des Danites se cherchait une possession pour s`établir, car jusqu`à ce jour il ne lui était point échu d`héritage au milieu des tribus d`Israël."

2. And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their coasts, men of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land: who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they lodged there.
2. Les fils de Dan prirent sur eux tous, parmi leurs familles, cinq hommes vaillants, qu`ils envoyèrent de Tsorea et d`Eschthaol, pour explorer le pays et pour l`examiner. Ils leur dirent: Allez, examinez le pays. Ils arrivèrent dans la montagne d`Éphraïm jusqu`à la maison de Mica, et ils y passèrent la nuit.

3. When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

4. And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, and hath hired me, and I am his priest.
4. Il leur répondit: Mica fait pour moi telle et telle chose, il me donne un salaire, et je lui sers de prêtre.

5. And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.
5. Ils lui dirent: Consulte Dieu, afin que nous sachions si notre voyage aura du succès.

6. And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before the LORD is your way wherein ye go.
6. "Et le prêtre leur répondit: Allez en paix; le voyage que vous faites est sous le regard de l`Éternel."

7. Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.
7. "Les cinq hommes partirent, et ils arrivèrent à Laïs. Ils virent le peuple qui y était vivant en sécurité à la manière des Sidoniens, tranquille et sans inquiétude; il n`y avait dans le pays personne qui leur fît le moindre outrage en dominant sur eux; ils étaient éloignés des Sidoniens, et ils n`avaient pas de liaison avec d`autres hommes."
7. Dia nandeha izy dimy lahy ka tonga tany Laisy, ary hitany ny olona tao fa nonina tsy nanana ahiahy tahaka ny fanaon' ny Sidoniana, nandry fahizay ka tsy nanana ahiahy, sady tsy nisy mpanapaka hahamena-maso azy teo amin' ny tany, na amin' inona na amin' inona, ary lavitra ny Sidoniana izy sady tsy nanan-draharaha tamin' olona akory.
8. And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?
8. Ils revinrent auprès de leurs frères à Tsorea et Eschthaol, et leurs frères leur dirent: Quelle nouvelle apportez-vous?

9. And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go, and to enter to possess the land.
9. "Allons! répondirent-ils, montons contre eux; car nous avons vu le pays, et voici, il est très bon. Quoi! vous restez sans rien dire! Ne soyez point paresseux à vous mettre en marche pour aller prendre possession de ce pays."
9. "Dia hoy izy: Mitsangàna, ka aoka isika hiakatra hamely azy; fa efa nahita ny tany izahay ka indro tsara indrindra izany; moa mbola mijanonjanona ihany va ianareo? aza malain-kandeha hiditra hahazo ny tany."
10. When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.
10. "Quand vous y entrerez, vous arriverez vers un peuple en sécurité. Le pays est vaste, et Dieu l`a livré entre vos mains; c`est un lieu où rien ne manque de tout ce qui est sur la terre."
10. "Raha mandeha ianareo, dia ho tonga any amin' ny olona tsy manana ahiahy sy any amin' ny tany malalaka; fa efa natolotr' Andriamanitra ho eo an-tananareo izany; dia tany tapi-javatra irina aty ambonin' ny tany."
11. And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men appointed with weapons of war.
11. Six cents hommes de la famille de Dan partirent de Tsorea et d`Eschthaol, munis de leurs armes de guerre.

12. And they went up, and pitched in Kirjathjearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahanehdan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim.
12. "Ils montèrent, et campèrent à Kirjath Jearim en Juda; c`est pourquoi ce lieu, qui est derrière Kirjath Jearim, a été appelé jusqu`à ce jour Machané Dan."

13. And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.
13. Ils passèrent de là dans la montagne d`Éphraïm, et ils arrivèrent jusqu`à la maison de Mica.

14. Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.
14. Alors les cinq hommes qui étaient allés pour explorer le pays de Laïs prirent la parole et dirent à leurs frères: Savez-vous qu`il y a dans ces maisons-là un éphod, des théraphim, une image taillée et une image en fonte? Voyez maintenant ce que vous avez à faire.
14. Ary namaly izy dimy lahy, izay nandeha hisafo ny tany Laisy, ka nanao tamin' ny rahalahiny hoe: Fantatrareo va fa ato amin' ireto trano ireto dia misy efoda sy terafima ary sarin-javatra voasokitra sy sarin-javatra an' idina? koa hevero izay hataonareo.
15. And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and saluted him.
15. Ils s`approchèrent de là, entrèrent dans la maison du jeune Lévite, dans la maison de Mica, et lui demandèrent comment il se portait.
15. Dia nivily tao izy ka tonga tao an-tranon' ilay zatovo Levita, dia tao an-tranon' i Mika, ka niarahaba azy.
16. And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate.
16. Les six cents hommes d`entre les fils de Dan, munis de leurs armes de guerre, se tenaient à l`entrée de la porte.

17. And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were appointed with weapons of war.
17. "Et les cinq hommes qui étaient allés pour explorer le pays montèrent et entrèrent dans la maison; ils prirent l`image taillée, l`éphod, les théraphim, et l`image en fonte, pendant que le prêtre était à l`entrée de la porte avec les six cents hommes munis de leurs armes de guerre."
17. "Ary niakatra izy dimy lahy, izay nandeha nisafo ny tany, dia niditra ka naka ny sarin-javatra voasokitra sy ny efoda sy ny terafima ary ny sarin-javatra an' idina; ary ilay mpisorona dia nijanona teo amin' ny fidirana amin' ny vavahady mbamin' ny eninjato lahy efa voaomana amin' ny fiadiany."
18. And these went into Micah's house, and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, What do ye?
18. Lorsqu`ils furent entrés dans la maison de Mica, et qu`ils eurent pris l`image taillée, l`éphod, les théraphim, et l`image en fonte, le prêtre leur dit: Que faites-vous?
18. Dia niditra tao an-tranon' i Mika ireo ka naka ny sarin-javatra voasokitra sy ny efoda sy ny terafima ary ny sarin-javatra an' idina. Ary hoy ilay mpisorona taminy: Ahoana izao ataonareo izao?
19. And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man, or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?
19. "Ils lui répondirent: Tais-toi, mets ta main sur ta bouche, et viens avec nous; tu nous serviras de père et de prêtre. Vaut-il mieux que tu serves de prêtre à la maison d`un seul homme, ou que tu serves de prêtre à une tribu et à une famille en Israël?"
19. "Dia hoy ireo taminy: Mangìna ianao, tampeno amin' ny tananao ny vavanao, ka andeha hiaraka aminay, dia ho rainay sy ho mpisoronay ianao; moa tsara ho anao va ny ho mpisorona ho an' ny ankohonan' ny olona iray, noho ny ho mpisorona ho an' ny foko iray sy ho an' ny fianakaviana iray amin' ny Isiraely?"
20. And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.
20. "Le prêtre éprouva de la joie dans son coeur; il prit l`éphod, les théraphim, et l`image taillée, et se joignit à la troupe."
20. Dia faly ny fon' ilay mpisorona, ka nalainy ny efoda sy ny terafima ary ny sarin-javatra voasokitra, ary nandeha teo afovoan' ny olona izy.
21. So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them.
21. Ils se remirent en route et partirent, en plaçant devant eux les enfants, le bétail et les bagages.
21. Dia nihodina ireo ka lasa nandeha ary ny ankizy madinika sy ny biby fiompy mbamin' ny fitondrana entana dia nataony teo alohany.
22. And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.
22. Comme ils étaient déjà loin de la maison de Mica, les gens qui habitaient les maisons voisines de celle de Mica se rassemblèrent et poursuivirent les fils de Dan.
22. Ary rehefa lasa lavitra ny tranon' i Mika izy ireo, dia nivory ny lehilahy nifanolo-bodirindrina tamin' i Mika ka nahatratra ny taranak' i Dana.
23. And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?
23. Ils appelèrent les fils de Dan, qui se retournèrent et dirent à Mica: Qu`as-tu, et que signifie ce rassemblement?
23. Dia niantso ny taranak' i Dana izy. Ary niherika ireo ka nanao tamin' i Mika hoe: Haninona ianao no tonga miaraka amin' ny olona maro toy izao?
24. And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee?
24. Il répondit: Mes dieux que j`avais faits, vous les avez enlevés avec le prêtre et vous êtes partis: que me reste-t-il? Comment donc pouvez-vous me dire: Qu`as-tu?
24. "Ary hoy izy: Ny andriamanitro izay nataoko sy ny mpisorona koa dia nalainareo, ka lasa ianareo; koa inona intsony no mba ho ahy? Ary ahoana no anaovanareo amiko hoe: Haninona ianao?"
25. And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.
25. "Les fils de Dan lui dirent: Ne fais pas entendre ta voix près de nous; sinon des hommes irrités se jetteront sur vous, et tu causeras ta perte et celle de ta maison."
25. Dia hoy ny taranak' i Dana taminy: Aoka tsy ho re eto intsony ny feonao, fandrao hisy olo-masiaka hamely anao, ka dia hanao izay hahafaty ny tenanao sy ny ankohonanao ianao.
26. And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.
26. Et les fils de Dan continuèrent leur route. Mica, voyant qu`ils étaient plus forts que lui, s`en retourna et revint dans sa maison.
26. "Dia nandeha tamin' ny nalehany ny taranak' i Dana; ary rehefa hitan' i Mika fa ireo dia mahery noho izy, dia niverina izy ka nody tany an-tranony."
27. And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire.
27. "Ils enlevèrent ainsi ce qu`avait fait Mica et emmenèrent le prêtre qui était à son service, et ils tombèrent sur Laïs, sur un peuple tranquille et en sécurité; ils le passèrent au fil de l`épée, et ils brûlèrent la ville."
27. "Ary izy ireo naka ny zavatra nataon' i Mika sy ny mpisorona izay tao aminy, dia nankany Laisy ho any amin' ny olona mandry fahizay ka tsy manana ahiahy, dia namely azy tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra ireo; ary ny tanàna nodorany tamin' ny afo."
28. And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob. And they built a city, and dwelt therein.
28. "Personne ne la délivra, car elle était éloignée de Sidon, et ses habitants n`avaient pas de liaison avec d`autres hommes: elle était dans la vallée qui s`étend vers Beth Rehob. Les fils de Dan rebâtirent la ville, et y habitèrent;"
28. "Ary tsy nisy mpamonjy, satria lavitra an' i Sidona izany, sady tsy nanan-draharaha tamin' olona akory izy; ary teo amin' ny lohasaha izay any Beti-rehoba izany. Dia nanorina tanàna izy ireo ka nonina tao."
29. And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.
29. "ils l`appelèrent Dan, d`après le nom de Dan, leur père, qui était né à Israël; mais la ville s`appelait auparavant Laïs."
29. "Ary ny anaran' izany tanàna izany dia nataony hoe Dana, araka ny anaran' i Dana rainy, izay naterak' Isiraely; kanefa Laisy no anaran' ny tanàna taloha."
30. And the children of Dan set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land.
30. "Ils dressèrent pour eux l`image taillée; et Jonathan, fils de Guerschom, fils de Manassé, lui et ses fils, furent prêtres pour la tribu des Danites, jusqu`à l`époque de la captivité du pays."
30. "Dia natsangan' ny taranak' i Dana ilay sarin-javatra voasokitra; ary Jonatana, zanak' i Gersoma, zanak' i Manase sy ny zanany, no mpisorona ho an' ny fokon' i Dana hatramin' ny andro namaboana ny tany."
31. And they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
31. Ils établirent pour eux l`image taillée qu`avait faite Mica, pendant tout le temps que la maison de Dieu fut à Silo.
