The Second Journey to Egypt
1. And the famine was sore in the land.

2. And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.
2. Quand ils eurent fini de manger le blé qu`ils avaient apporté d`Égypte, Jacob dit à ses fils: Retournez, achetez-nous un peu de vivres.

3. And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
3. Juda lui répondit: Cet homme nous a fait cette déclaration formelle: Vous ne verrez pas ma face, à moins que votre frère ne soit avec vous.

4. If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:
4. Si donc tu veux envoyer notre frère avec nous, nous descendrons, et nous t`achèterons des vivres.

5. But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
5. Mais si tu ne veux pas l`envoyer, nous ne descendrons point, car cet homme nous a dit: Vous ne verrez pas ma face, à moins que votre frère ne soit avec vous.
5. Fa raha tsy hampandehaninao izy, dia tsy hidina izahay, fa hoy ralehilahy taminay: Tsy hahita ny tavako ianareo, raha tsy hiaraka aminareo ilay rahalahinareo.
6. And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?
6. Israël dit alors: Pourquoi avez-vous mal agi à mon égard, en disant à cet homme que vous aviez encore un frère?
6. Ary hoy Isiraely: Nahoana no nampidi-doza tamiko ianareo ka nanambara tamin-dralehilahy fa mbola manan-drahalahy iray koa ianareo?
7. And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?
7. Ils répondirent: Cet homme nous a interrogés sur nous et sur notre famille, en disant: Votre père vit-il encore? avez-vous un frère? Et nous avons répondu à ces questions. Pouvions-nous savoir qu`il dirait: Faites descendre votre frère?
7. "Ary hoy izy ireo: Nanadina dia nanadina ny amin' ny tenanay sy ny mpianakavinay ralehilahy ka nanao hoe: Mbola velona ihany va ny rainareo? Manan-drahalahy hafa va ianareo? Dia nambaranay taminy araka izany teny izany; moa va nampoizinay akory fa hiteny izy hoe: Ento midina ny rahalahinareo?"
8. And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
8. "Juda dit à Israël, son père: Laisse venir l`enfant avec moi, afin que nous nous levions et que nous partions; et nous vivrons et ne mourrons pas, nous, toi, et nos enfants."
8. Ary hoy Joda tamin' Isiraely rainy: Ampandehano hiaraka amiko ny zaza, dia hiainga izahay ka handeha, mba ho velona isika fa tsy ho faty, dia izahay sy ianao ary ny zanatsika madinika koa.
9. I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:
9. "Je réponds de lui; tu le redemanderas de ma main. Si je ne le ramène pas auprès de toi et si je ne le remets pas devant ta face, je serai pour toujours coupable envers toi."
9. "Izaho no hiantoka azy; amin' ny tanako no hitakianao azy; raha tsy hoentiko aty aminao ka hatolotro eto anatrehanao izy, dia aoka aho hitondra ny tsiny mandrakizay;"
10. For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.
10. Car si nous n`eussions pas tardé, nous serions maintenant deux fois de retour.
10. Fa raha tsy nitaredretra izahay dia efa tafaverina fanindroany toy izay.
11. And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
11. Israël, leur père, leur dit: Puisqu`il le faut, faites ceci. Prenez dans vos sacs des meilleures productions du pays, pour en porter un présent à cet homme, un peu de baume et un peu de miel, des aromates, de la myrrhe, des pistaches et des amandes.
11. "Ary hoy Isiraely rainy taminy: Raha izany àry no izy, dia izao no ataovy: Analao ny vokatra tsara indrindra amin' ny tany ka ataovy ao anatin' ny fitondran' entanareo, dia ento midina ho any amin-dralehilahy ny fanomezana, dia balsama kely, tantely kely, zava-manitra sy miora, pistakia sy amygdala;"
12. And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:
12. Prenez avec vous de l`argent au double, et remportez l`argent qu`on avait mis à l`entrée de vos sacs: peut-être était-ce une erreur.
12. "Ary mitondrà vola toraka ny teo eny an-tananareo; ary ilay vola izay naverina teo am-bavan' ny lasakanareo dia ento miverina indray, angamba fahadisoana izany."
13. Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
13. "Prenez votre frère, et levez-vous; retournez vers cet homme."
13. "Ary ento koa ny rahalahinareo, dia miaingà ka miverena indray any amin-dralehilahy;"
14. And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
14. Que le Dieu tout puissant vous fasse trouver grâce devant cet homme, et qu`il laisse revenir avec vous votre autre frère et Benjamin! Et moi, si je dois être privé de mes enfants, que j`en sois privé!
14. Ary Andriamanitra Tsitoha anie hampahita famindrampo anareo eo anatrehan-dralehilahy mba hampodiny ny rahalahinareo anankiray sy Benjamina. Ary izaho raha foanana anaka, dia ho foana anaka.
15. And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
15. "Ils prirent le présent; ils prirent avec eux de l`argent au double, ainsi que Benjamin; ils se levèrent, descendirent en Égypte, et se présentèrent devant Joseph."
15. Dia nentin' ireo lehilahy ireo izany fanomezana izany, ary vola indroa toraka ny teo no nentiny teny an-tanany, mbamin' i Benjamina. Ary niainga izy ireo, dia nidina tany Egypta ka tonga teo anatrehan' i Josefa.
16. And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.
16. "Dès que Joseph vit avec eux Benjamin, il dit à son intendant: Fais entrer ces gens dans la maison, tue et apprête; car ces gens mangeront avec moi à midi."
16. "Ary Josefa raha nahita an' i Benjamina niaraka tamin' izy ireo, dia nanao tamin' ny mpanapaka ny tao an-tranony hoe: Ampidiro aty an-trano ireo lehilahy ireo, dia amonoy zavatra ka ataovy vonona; fa hiara-mihinana amiko ireo amin' ny mitataovovonana."
17. And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph's house.
17. Cet homme fit ce que Joseph avait ordonné, et il conduisit ces gens dans la maison de Joseph.
17. "Dia nataon-dralehilahy araka izay nandidian' i Josefa; ka nampidirin-dralehilahy tao an-tranon' i Josefa ireo."
18. And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph's house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.
18. "Ils eurent peur lorsqu`ils furent conduits à la maison de Joseph, et ils dirent: C`est à cause de l`argent remis l`autre fois dans nos sacs qu`on nous emmène; c`est pour se jeter sur nous, se précipiter sur nous; c`est pour nous prendre comme esclaves, et s`emparer de nos ânes."
18. "Dia raiki-tahotra ireo lehilahy ireo satria nampidirina tao an-tranon' i Josefa, ka hoy izy: Noho ny amin’ilay vola naverina tao anatin' ny lasakantsika tamin' ny voalohany no nampidirana antsika; mba hahitany antony hanoherana antsika, ka hianjerany amintsika, dia halainy ho andevo isika, ary halainy koa ny borikintsika."
19. And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
19. Ils s`approchèrent de l`intendant de la maison de Joseph, et lui adressèrent la parole, à l`entrée de la maison.
19. Dia nanatona an-dralehilahy mpikarakara ny tao an-tranon' i Josefa izy ireo ka niteny taminy teo am-baravaran' ny trano,
20. And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:
20. Ils dirent: Pardon! mon seigneur, nous sommes déjà descendus une fois pour acheter des vivres.
20. "Ka nanao hoe: Ry tompokolahy ô, nidina nividy hanina tokoa izahay tamin' ny voalohany;"
21. And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man's money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.
21. "Puis, quand nous arrivâmes, au lieu où nous devions passer la nuit, nous avons ouvert nos sacs; et voici, l`argent de chacun était à l`entrée de son sac, notre argent selon son poids: nous le rapportons avec nous."
21. "Ary izao no niseho, rehefa tonga teo amin' izay nandrianay izahay, dia nosokafanay ny lasakanay, ka indreo ny volanay isan-dahy teo am-bavan' ny lasakanay avy, tonga lanja avokoa ny volanay; ary efa nentinay niverina eto an-tananay izany."
22. And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.
22. Nous avons aussi apporté d`autre argent, pour acheter des vivres. Nous ne savons pas qui avait mis notre argent dans nos sacs.
22. Ary nitondra vola hafa koa eto an-tananay izahay hamidy hanina: Tsy fantatray izay nanao ny volanay tao anatin' ny lasakanay.
23. And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.
23. L`intendant répondit: Que la paix soit avec vous! Ne craignez rien. C`est votre Dieu, le Dieu de votre père, qui vous a donné un trésor dans vos sacs. Votre argent m`est parvenu. Et il leur amena Siméon.
23. "Ary hoy izy: Fiadanana anie ho anareo, aza matahotra; Andriamanitrareo, dia Andriamanitry ny rainareo, no nanome anareo tahiry ao anatin' ny lasakanareo; efa taty amiko ny volanareo. Dia namoaka an' i Simeona ho eo aminy izy."
24. And the man brought the men into Joseph's house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.
24. "Cet homme les fit entrer dans la maison de Joseph; il leur donna de l`eau et ils se lavèrent les pieds; il donna aussi du fourrage à leurs ânes."
24. Ary nampidirin-dralehilahy tao an-tranon' i Josefa ireo lehilahy ireo ka nomeny rano, dia nanasa tongotra izy, ary ny borikiny nomeny sakafom-biby.
25. And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.
25. "Ils préparèrent leur présent, en attendant que Joseph vienne à midi; car on les avait informés qu`ils mangeraient chez lui."
25. "Ary novononiny ny fanomezana ho an' i Josefa mandra-piaviny amin' ny mitataovovonana; fa efa reny fa eo no hihinan-kanina izy ireo."
26. And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
26. Quand Joseph fut arrivé à la maison, ils lui offrirent le présent qu`ils avaient apporté, et ils se prosternèrent en terre devant lui.
26. Ary rehefa tonga tao an-trano Josefa, dia nentin' izy ireo teo aminy tao an-tranony ny fanomezana izay teny an-tanany, ka dia niankohoka teo aminy tamin' ny tany izy ireo.
27. And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?
27. "Il leur demanda comment ils se portaient; et il dit: Votre vieux père, dont vous avez parlé, est-il en bonne santé? vit-il encore?"
27. Ary nanontany azy ireo ny toeny Josefa ka nanao hoe: Tsara ihany va ny rainareo, ilay lahy antitra nolazainareo? Mbola velona ihany va izy?
28. And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.
28. "Ils répondirent: Ton serviteur, notre père, est en bonne santé; il vit encore. Et ils s`inclinèrent et se prosternèrent."
28. "Dia namaly ireo hoe: Tsara ihany ny mpanomponao rainay; mbola velona ihany izy. Dia niondrika izy ireo ka niankohoka."
29. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.
29. "Joseph leva les yeux; et, jetant un regard sur Benjamin, son frère, fils de sa mère, il dit: Est-ce là votre jeune frère, dont vous m`avez parlé? Et il ajouta: Dieu te fasse miséricorde, mon fils!"
29. Ary Josefa nanopy ny masony ka nahita an' i Benjamina rahalahiny, zanakalahin' ny reniny, dia hoy izy: Io va no zandrinareo faralahy, izay nolazainareo tamiko? Sady hoy izy: Andriamanitra anie hanisy soa anao anaka.
30. And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.
30. "Ses entrailles étaient émues pour son frère, et il avait besoin de pleurer; il entra précipitamment dans une chambre, et il y pleura."
30. "Dia niala faingana Josefa, fa nangorakoraka ny tao anatiny noho ny rahalahiny; ka nitady izay hitomaniany izy; dia niditra tao an' efitranony izy ka nitomany tao."
31. And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.
31. "Après s`être lavé le visage, il en sortit; et, faisant des efforts pour se contenir, il dit: Servez à manger."
31. "Ary nanasa ny tavany izy dia nivoaka; ary nanindry ny fangorakoraky ny fony ka nanao hoe: Arosoy ny nahandro."
32. And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
32. "On servit Joseph à part, et ses frères à part; les Égyptiens qui mangeaient avec lui furent aussi servis à part, car les Égyptiens ne pouvaient pas manger avec les Hébreux, parce que c`est à leurs yeux une abomination."
32. "Dia narosony mitokana ny ho an' i Josefa, ary mitokana ny ho an' ny rahalahiny, ary mitokana ny ho an' ny Egyptiana izay nihinana teo aminy; satria ny Egyptiana tsy mahazo miara-komana amin' ny Hebreo fa fahavetavetana amin' ny Egyptiana izany."
33. And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.
33. "Les frères de Joseph s`assirent en sa présence, le premier-né selon son droit d`aînesse, et le plus jeune selon son âge; et ils se regardaient les uns les autres avec étonnement."
33. "Dia nipetraka teo anatrehany izy, ny lahimatoa araka ny fizokiany, ary ny faralahy araka ny fizandriany; dia samy talanjona ka nifampijerijery izy."
34. And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
34. Joseph leur fit porter des mets qui étaient devant lui, et Benjamin en eut cinq fois plus que les autres. Ils burent, et s`égayèrent avec lui.
34. "Ary samy nitondrana anjara hanina avy teo anoloan' i Josefa izy ireo; kanefa ny anjara hanin' i Benjamina dia indimy toraka ny anjaran-drery tamin' izy rehetra. Dia nisotro sy niara-nifaly taminy izy ireo."
