Wanderings in the Desert
1. Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
1. "Nous nous tournâmes, et nous partîmes pour le désert, par le chemin de la mer Rouge, comme l`Éternel me l`avait ordonné; nous suivîmes longtemps les contours de la montagne de Séir."
1. "Dia niverina isika ka nandeha tany an' efitra tamin'ny lalana mankany amin' ny Ranomasina Mena, araka izay nolazain' i Jehovah tamiko; ary nanodidina ny tendrombohitra Seïra andro maro isika."
2. And the LORD spake unto me, saying,
2. L`Éternel me dit:
2. Dia niteny tamiko Jehovah ka nanao hoe:
3. Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
3. Vous avez assez suivi les contours de cette montagne. Tournez-vous vers le nord.
3. Ampy izay ny nandehananareo nanodidina ity tendrombohitra ity, fa miverena mianavaratra ianareo.
4. And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:
4. "Donne cet ordre au peuple: Vous allez passer à la frontière de vos frères, les enfants d`Ésaü, qui habitent en Séir. Ils vous craindront; mais soyez bien sur vos gardes."
4. "Ary mandidia ny olona hoe: Ianareo efa handeha hamaky ny tanin' ny taranak' i Esao rahalahinareo, izay monina any Seïra; dia hatahotra anareo izy; nefa mitandrema tsara ianareo,"
5. Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.
5. "Ne les attaquez pas; car je ne vous donnerai dans leur pays pas même de quoi poser la plante du pied: j`ai donné la montagne de Séir en propriété à Ésaü."
5. "Ka aza mila ady aminy; fa tsy hanomezako anareo ny taniny, na dia eram-paladia akory aza, satria nomeko ho lovan' i Esao ny tendrombohitra Seïra."
6. Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
6. Vous achèterez d`eux à prix d`argent la nourriture que vous mangerez, et vous achèterez d`eux à prix d`argent même l`eau que vous boirez.
6. "Vola no hamidinareo hanina aminy hohaninareo; ary vola koa no hamidinareo rano hosotroinareo."
7. For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
7. Car l`Éternel, ton Dieu, t`a béni dans tout le travail de tes mains, il a connu ta marche dans ce grand désert. Voilà quarante années que l`Éternel, ton Dieu, est avec toi: tu n`as manqué de rien.
7. "Fa Jehovah Andriamanitrao efa nitahy anao tamin' izay rehetra nataon' ny tananao; fantany ny nandehananao namaky ity efitra lehibe ity; izay efapolo taona izay Jehovah Andriamanitrao no teo aminao, ka tsy nanan-java-mahory akory ianao."
8. And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
8. Nous passâmes à distance de nos frères, les enfants d`Ésaü, qui habitent en Séir, et à distance du chemin de la plaine, d`Élath et d`Etsjon Guéber, puis nous nous tournâmes, et nous prîmes la direction du désert de Moab.
8. Ary raha nandalo ny taranak' i Esao rahalahintsika izay monina any Seïra isika ary niala ho amin' ny lalana mankany amin' ny tany lemaka Elata any Ezion-gebera, dia nivily isika ka nandeha tamin' ny lalan' ny efitr' i Moaba.
9. And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
9. "L`Éternel me dit: N`attaque pas Moab, et ne t`engage pas dans un combat avec lui; car je ne te donnerai rien à posséder dans son pays: c`est aux enfants de Lot que j`ai donné Ar en propriété."
9. Dia hoy Jehovah tamiko: Aza mampahory ny Moabita, na mila ady aminy, fa tsy hanomezako ho lovanao ny taniny, satria Ara dia efa nomeko ho fananan' ny taranak' i Lota.
10. The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
10. "(Les Émim y habitaient auparavant; c`était un peuple grand, nombreux et de haute taille, comme les Anakim."
10. "Ny Emima nonina tany fahiny, dia firenena lehibe sy maro isa ary olona lava tahaka ny Anakita;"
11. Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.
11. "Ils passaient aussi pour être des Rephaïm, de même que les Anakim; mais les Moabites les appelaient Émim."
11. "Ireo koa no natao ho isan' ny olona goavambe toy ny Anakita; fa ny Moabita kosa nanao azy hoe: Emima."
12. The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
12. "Séir était habité autrefois par les Horiens; les enfants d`Ésaü les chassèrent, les détruisirent devant eux, et s`établirent à leur place, comme l`a fait Israël dans le pays qu`il possède et que l`Éternel lui a donné.)"
12. "Ary ny tany Seïra dia nonenan' ny Horima koa fahiny, fa ny taranak' i Esao nandroaka azy ka nandringana azy tsy ho eo anoloany, dia nonina nisolo azy; izany no nataon' ny Isiraely tamin' ny tany izay nomen' i Jehovah azy ho lovany."
13. Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.
13. Maintenant levez-vous, et passez le torrent de Zéred. Nous passâmes le torrent de Zéred.
13. Miaingà ankehitriny ianareo, hoy aho, ka mandehana mita ny renirano kely Zareda. Dia nita ny renirano Zareda isika.
14. And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.
14. Le temps que durèrent nos marches de Kadès Barnéa au passage du torrent de Zéred fut de trente-huit ans, jusqu`à ce que toute la génération des hommes de guerre eût disparu du milieu du camp, comme l`Éternel le leur avait juré.
14. Ary ny andro nandehanantsika hatrany Kadesi-barnea ka hatramin' ny nitantsika ny renirano kely Zareda dia valo amby telopolo taona mandra-pahalany ritra ny mpanafika rehetra tamin' ny taranaka rehetra, ka tsy nisy intsony teo amin' ny toby, araka izay efa nianianan' i Jehovah taminy.
15. For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
15. La main de l`Éternel fut aussi sur eux pour les détruire du milieu du camp, jusqu`à ce qu`ils eussent disparu.
15. Fa ny tanan' i Jehovah dia namely azy marimarina ka nandringana azy mandra-pahalany ritrany ka tsy nisy intsony teo amin' ny toby.
16. So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
16. Lorsque tous les hommes de guerre eurent disparu par la mort du milieu du peuple,
16. Koa izao no niseho, rehefa lany ritra ny mpanafika rehetra ka tapitra maty teo amin' ny olona,
17. That the LORD spake unto me, saying,
17. l`Éternel me parla, et dit:
17. Dia niteny tamiko Jehovah ka nanao hoe:
18. Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
18. Tu passeras aujourd`hui la frontière de Moab, à Ar,
18. "Ankehitriny dia hamaky an' i Ara, sisintanin' i Moaba ianareo;"
19. And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
19. "et tu approcheras des enfants d`Ammon. Ne les attaque pas, et ne t`engage pas dans un combat avec eux; car je ne te donnerai rien à posséder dans le pays des enfants d`Ammon: c`est aux enfants de Lot que je l`ai donné en propriété."
19. "Ary raha tonga eo akaikin' ny taranak' i Amona ianao, dia aza mampahory azy, na mila ady aminy; fa tsy hanomezako ho fanananao ny tanin' ny zanak' i Amona, satria nomeko ho lovan' ny taranak' i Lota izany."
20. (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
20. "(Ce pays passait aussi pour un pays de Rephaïm; des Rephaïm y habitaient auparavant, et les Ammonites les appelaient Zamzummim:"
20. "(Izany koa dia natao ho tanin' ny olona goavambe fahiny; ary nataon' ny Amonita hoe Zamzomita izy ireny."
21. A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:
21. c`était un peuple grand, nombreux et de haute taille, comme les Anakim. L`Éternel les détruisit devant les Ammonites, qui les chassèrent et s`établirent à leur place.
21. Firenena lehibe sy maro isa ary olona lava tahaka ny Anakita ireny, nefa naringan' i Jehovah tsy ho eo anoloany izy ka ny Amonita no nonina nisolo azy.
22. As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:
22. "C`est ainsi que fit l`Éternel pour les enfants d`Ésaü qui habitent en Séir, quand il détruisit les Horiens devant eux; ils les chassèrent et s`établirent à leur place, jusqu`à ce jour."
22. Araka izay nataony ho an' ny taranak' i Esao, izay nitoetra tany Seïra, rehefa nandringana ny Horima tsy ho eo anoloany Izy, ka dia nonina nisolo azy ireo mandraka androany.
23. And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
23. Les Avviens, qui habitaient dans des villages jusqu`à Gaza, furent détruits par les Caphtorim, sortis de Caphtor, qui s`établirent à leur place.)

Defeat of Sihon King of Heshbon
24. Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
24. Levez-vous, partez, et passez le torrent de l`Arnon. Vois, je livre entre tes mains Sihon, roi de Hesbon, l`Amoréen et son pays. Commence la conquête, fais-lui la guerre!
24. "Mitsangàna, miaingà, ka mità ny renirano Arnona ianareo; indro, efa natolotro eo an-tananao Sihona Amorita, mpanjakan' i Hesbona, mbamin' ny taniny. Santaro ny handovanao azy, ka tafiho izy."
25. This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.
25. "Je vais répandre dès aujourd`hui la frayeur et la crainte de toi sur tous les peuples qui sont sous le ciel; et, au bruit de ta renommée, ils trembleront et seront saisis d`angoisse à cause de toi."
25. Anio no vao hataoko mahazo ny firenena ambanin' ny lanitra rehetra ny horohoro sy tahotra anareo, ka raha reny ny lazanao, dia hangovitra sy hangorohoro eo anoloanao izy.
26. And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
26. J`envoyai, du désert de Kedémoth, des messagers à Sihon, roi de Hesbon, avec des paroles de paix. Je lui fis dire:
26. Dia naniraka olona avy tany an' efitr' i Kedemota aho hankany amin' i Sihona, mpanjakan' i Hesbona, nitondra teny fihavanana hoe:
27. Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
27. "Laisse-moi passer par ton pays; je suivrai la grande route, sans m`écarter ni à droite ni à gauche."
27. "Aoka mba handeha hamaky ny taninao aho; ny lalambe ihany no halehako, ka tsy hivily aho, na ho amin' ny ankavanana, na ho amin' ny ankavia."
28. Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
28. "Tu me vendras à prix d`argent la nourriture que je mangerai, et tu me donneras à prix d`argent l`eau que je boirai; je ne ferai que passer avec mes pieds."
28. "Vola no hivarotanao hanina amiko hohaniko, ary vola no hivarotanao rano amiko hosotroiko; ary handalo fotsiny ihany aho,"
29. (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.
29. C`est ce que m`ont accordé les enfants d`Ésaü qui habitent en Séir, et les Moabites qui demeurent à Ar. Accorde-le aussi, jusqu`à ce que je passe le Jourdain pour entrer au pays que l`Éternel, notre Dieu, nous donne.
29. (Araka izay nataon' ny taranak' i Esao, izay monina any Seïra, sy ny Moabita, izay monina any Ara, tamiko), mandra-pitako an' i Jordana ho any amin' ny tany izay omen' i Jehovah Andriamanitray anay.
30. But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.
30. "Mais Sihon, roi de Hesbon, ne voulut point nous laisser passer chez lui; car l`Éternel, ton Dieu, rendit son esprit inflexible et endurcit son coeur, afin de le livrer entre tes mains, comme tu le vois aujourd`hui."
30. "Fa Sihona, mpanjakan' i Hesbona tsy nety namela antsika hamaky ny taniny; fa Jehovah Andriamanitrao nanamafy ny fanahiny sy nampahaditra ny fony mba hanolorany azy eo an-tananao tahaka ny amin' izao anio izao."
31. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.
31. L`Éternel me dit: Vois, je te livre dès maintenant Sihon et son pays.
31. Ary hoy Jehovah tamiko: Indro, vao manomboka hanolotra an' i Sihona sy ny taniny eo anoloanao Aho, santaro ny hahazoanao azy, mba handovanao ny taniny.
32. Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.
32. Sihon sortit à notre rencontre, avec tout son peuple, pour nous combattre à Jahats.
32. Dia nivoaka Sihona, dia izy mbamin' ny vahoakany rehetra hiady amintsika tao Jahaza.
33. And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
33. L`Éternel, notre Dieu, nous le livra, et nous le battîmes, lui et ses fils, et tout son peuple.
33. Dia nanolotra azy teo anoloantsika Jehovah Andriamanitsika, ka namely azy sy ny zanany ary ny vahoakany rehetra isika.
34. And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
34. Nous prîmes alors toutes ses villes, et nous les dévouâmes par interdit, hommes, femmes et petits enfants, sans en laisser échapper un seul.
34. Ary nahafaka ny tanànany rehetra tamin' izany fotoana izany isika ka nandringana tanteraka ny lehilahy sy ny vehivavy, ary ny zaza madinika tamin' ny isan-tanàna rehetra, tsy nasiantsika niangana na dia iray aza.
35. Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
35. Seulement, nous pillâmes pour nous le bétail et le butin des villes que nous avions prises.
35. Ny biby fiompy sy ny fananany tao amin' ny tanàna izay afatsika ihany no nataontsika ho babo.
36. From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
36. Depuis Aroër sur les bords du torrent de l`Arnon, et la ville qui est dans la vallée, jusqu`à Galaad, il n`y eut pas de ville trop forte pour nous: l`Éternel, notre Dieu, nous livra tout.
36. "Hatrany Aroera, izay eo amoron' ny reniranon' i Arnona, dia hatramin' ny tanàna izay ao amoron' ny renirano, ka hatrany Gileada, tsy nisy tanàna izay mafy loatra tamin-tsika; fa izy rehetra dia natolotr' i Jehovah Andriamanitsika ho an-tsika;"
37. Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
37. Mais tu n`approchas point du pays des enfants d`Ammon, de tous les bords du torrent de Jabbok, des villes de la montagne, de tous les lieux que l`Éternel, notre Dieu, t`avait défendu d`attaquer.
37. Kanefa ny tanin' ny taranak' i Amona no tsy nakaikezinareo, dia ny toerana amoron' ny renirano Jaboka sy ny tanàna eo amin' ny tendrombohitra, ary izay rehetra nandraran' i Jehovah Andriamanitsika antsika.
