Nebuchadnezzar's Dream
1. And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.

2. Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.
2. Le roi fit appeler les magiciens, les astrologues, les enchanteurs et les Chaldéens, pour qu`ils lui disent ses songes. Ils vinrent, et se présentèrent devant le roi.

3. And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.
3. "Le roi leur dit: J`ai eu un songe; mon esprit est agité, et je voudrais connaître ce songe."

4. Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.
4. Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi en langue araméenne: O roi, vis éternellement! dis le songe à tes serviteurs, et nous en donnerons l`explication.
4. Dia niteny tamin' ny mpanjaka tamin' ny teny syriaka ireny Kaldeana ireny hoe: Ry mpanjaka ô, ho velona mandrakizay anie ianao, ambarao aminay mpanomponao ny nofy, dia holazainay ny heviny.
5. The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
5. "Le roi reprit la parole et dit aux Chaldéens: La chose m`a échappé; si vous ne me faites connaître le songe et son explication, vous serez mis en pièces, et vos maisons seront réduites en un tas d`immondices."
5. "Dia namaly ny mpanjaka ka nanao tamin' ireo kaldeana hoe: efa niloa-bava aho; raha tsy hampahafantarinareo ahy ny nofy sy ny heviny, dia hotetitetehina ianareo, ary ny tranonareo hatao trano fivoahana."
6. But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
6. Mais si vous me dites le songe et son explication, vous recevrez de moi des dons et des présents, et de grands honneurs. C`est pourquoi dites-moi le songe et son explication.

7. They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.
7. Ils répondirent pour la seconde fois: Que le roi dise le songe à ses serviteurs, et nous en donnerons l`explication.
7. Dia namaly indray ireo ka nanao hoe: Aoka ny mpanjaka hilaza ny nofy aminay mpanompony, dia hambaranay ny heviny.
8. The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.
8. Le roi reprit la parole et dit: Je m`aperçois, en vérité, que vous voulez gagner du temps, parce que vous voyez que la chose m`a échappé.
8. Fa ny mpanjaka namaly ka nanao hoe: Fantatro marimarina fa mandany andro foana ianareo, satria hitanareo fa efa niloa-bava aho.
9. But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.
9. "Si donc vous ne me faites pas connaître le songe, la même sentence vous enveloppera tous; vous voulez vous préparez à me dire des mensonges et des faussetés, en attendant que les temps soient changés. C`est pourquoi dites-moi le songe, et je saurai si vous êtes capables de m`en donner l`explication."
9. "Fa raha tsy hampahafantarinareo ahy ny nofy, dia lalàna iray ihany no hitondrana anareo; fa miray tetika ianareo hilaza teny lainga sy arirarira foana eto anatrehako mandra-piovan' ny andro; koa ambarao ahy ny nofy, dia ho fantatro fa mahalaza ny heviny amiko ianareo."
10. The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
10. "Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi: Il n`est personne sur la terre qui puisse dire ce que demande le roi; aussi jamais roi, quelque grand et puissant qu`il ait été, n`a exigé une pareille chose d`aucun magicien, astrologue ou Chaldéen."
10. Ny Kaldeana dia namaly teo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka hoe: Tsy misy olona ety ambonin' ny tany mahay milaza ny nofin' ny mpanjaka fa tsy mbola nisy mpanjaka, na tompo na mpanapaka, nanontany zavatra toy izany tamin' ny ombiasy sy ny mpisikidy, ary ny Kaldeana.
11. And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
11. "Ce que le roi demande est difficile; il n`y a personne qui puisse le dire au roi, excepté les dieux, dont la demeure n`est pas parmi les hommes."

12. For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
12. Là-dessus le roi se mit en colère, et s`irrita violemment. Il ordonna qu`on fasse périr tous les sages de Babylone.
12. Dia vinitra sady tezitra indrindra ny mpanjaka noho izany, ka nasainy naringana ny olon-kendrin' i Babylona rehetra.
13. And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.
13. La sentence fut publiée, les sages étaient mis à mort, et l`on cherchait Daniel et ses compagnons pour les faire périr.

14. Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
14. Alors Daniel s`adressa d`une manière prudente et sensée à Arjoc, chef des gardes du roi, qui était sorti pour mettre à mort les sages de Babylone.
14. "Dia novalian' i Daniela tamin' ny fanahy sy fahendrena Arioka lehiben' ny mpiambina ny mpanjaka izay nivoaka hamono ny olon-kendrin' i Babylona;"
15. He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
15. Il prit la parole et dit à Arjoc, commandant du roi: Pourquoi la sentence du roi est-elle si sévère? Arjoc exposa la chose à Daniel.
15. Namaly izy ka nanao tamin' i Arioka, lehibe voatendrin' ny mpanjaka hoe: Nahoana no dia maika toy izany ny teny avy amin' ny mpanjaka? Dia nambaran' i Arioka tamin' i Daniela ilay teny.
16. Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.
16. Et Daniel se rendit vers le roi, et le pria de lui accorder du temps pour donner au roi l`explication.

17. Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

18. That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
19. Alors le secret fut révélé à Daniel dans une vision pendant la nuit. Et Daniel bénit le Dieu des cieux.
19. Dia naseho an' i Daniela tamin' ny fahitana amin' ny alina ny zava-miafina.Ka dia nisaotra an' Andriamanitry ny lanitra Daniela.
20. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
20. Daniel prit la parole et dit: Béni soit le nom de Dieu, d`éternité en éternité! A lui appartiennent la sagesse et la force.
20. Namaly Daniela ka nanao hoe: Isaorana anie ny anaran' Andriamanitra mandrakizay, mandrakizay, fa Azy ny fahendrena sy hery.
21. And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
21. C`est lui qui change les temps et les circonstances, qui renverse et qui établit les rois, qui donne la sagesse aux sages et la science à ceux qui ont de l`intelligence.

22. He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
22. Il révèle ce qui est profond et caché, il connaît ce qui est dans les ténèbres, et la lumière demeure avec lui.
22. "Izy no mampiseho ny zavatra lalina sy miafina; Izy no mahalala izay ao amin' ny maizina, ary ny mazava mitoetra ao aminy."
23. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
23. Dieu de mes pères, je te glorifie et je te loue de ce que tu m`as donné la sagesse et la force, et de ce que tu m`as fait connaître ce que nous t`avons demandé, de ce que tu nous as révélé le secret du roi.
23. "Misaotra Anao sy midera Anao aho ry Andriamanitry ny razako ô, izay nanome ahy fahendrena sy hery ary efa nampahafantarinao ahy ankehitriny izay nangatahinay taminao; fa nampahafantarinao anay ny zavatry ny mpanjaka."
Daniel Interprets the Dream
24. Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
24. "Après cela, Daniel se rendit auprès d`Arjoc, à qui le roi avait ordonné de faire périr les sages de Babylone; il alla, et lui parla ainsi: Ne fais pas périr les sages de Babylone! Conduis-moi devant le roi, et je donnerai au roi l`explication."
24. "Ary noho izany Daniela dia niditra nankao amin' i Arioka, izay notendren' ny mpanjaka handringana ny olon-kendrin' i Babylona; nandeha izy ka nanao taminy hoe: Aza mandringana ny olon-kendrin' i Babylona, fa ento ho eo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka aho, dia hambarako aminy ny hevitry ny nofiny."
25. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
25. Arjoc conduisit promptement Daniel devant le roi, et lui parla ainsi: J`ai trouvé parmi les captifs de Juda un homme qui donnera l`explication au roi.
25. Dia nentin' i Arioka faingana ho eo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka Daniela, ka hoy izy taminy: Nahita lehilahy isan' ny babo avy any Joda aho, izay hilaza amin' ny mpanjaka ny hevitry ny nofy.
26. The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?
26. Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel, qu`on nommait Beltschatsar: Es-tu capable de me faire connaître le songe que j`ai eu et son explication?
26. Ny mpanjaka namaly ka nilaza tamin' i Daniela, izay atao hoe koa Beltesazara, hoe: Moa mahay manambara amiko ny nofy izay hitako mbamin' ny heviny va ianao?
27. Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
27. Daniel répondit en présence du roi et dit: Ce que le roi demande est un secret que les sages, les astrologues, les magiciens et les devins, ne sont pas capables de découvrir au roi.
27. "Dia namaly teo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka Daniela ka nanao hoe: Ilay zava-miafina nanontanian' ny mpanjaka dia tsy hain' ny olon-kendry, na ny mpisikidy, na ny ombiasy, na ny mpanandro, nolazaina tamin' ny mpanjaka;"
28. But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
28. Mais il y a dans les cieux un Dieu qui révèle les secrets, et qui a fait connaître au roi Nebucadnetsar ce qui arrivera dans la suite des temps. Voici ton songe et les visions que tu as eues sur ta couche.
28. Kanefa misy Andriamanitra any an-danitra, Izay mampiseho zava-miafina ka mampahafantatra an' i Nebokadnezara mpanjaka izay ho tonga any am-parany. Ny nofinao sy ny fahitan' ny lohanao teo amin' ny farafaranao dia izao:
29. As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
29. "Sur ta couche, ô roi, il t`est monté des pensées touchant ce qui sera après ce temps-ci; et celui qui révèle les secrets t`a fait connaître ce qui arrivera."
29. "Ny aminao, ry mpanjaka ô, raha nandry ianao, dia tonga ny eritreritrao ny amin' izay ho avy rahatrizay; ary Izay mampiseho zava-miafina dia mampahafantatra anao izay ho avy."
30. But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
30. "Si ce secret m`a été révélé, ce n`est point qu`il y ait en moi une sagesse supérieure à celle de tous les vivants; mais c`est afin que l`explication soit donnée au roi, et que tu connaisses les pensées de ton coeur."
30. Fa raha ny amiko, dia tsy noho ny fahendrena ananako mihoatra noho ny olombelona rehetra tsy akory no nampisehoana tamiko ny zava-miafina, fa ny mba hampahafantarana ny mpanjaka ilay hevitra, ka hahafantaranao ny eritreritry ny fonao.
31. Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
31. "O roi, tu regardais, et tu voyais une grande statue; cette statue était immense, et d`une splendeur extraordinaire; elle était debout devant toi, et son aspect était terrible."
31. Ianao, ry mpanjaka ô, nahita fa, indro, nisy sariolona lehibe anankiray.Izany sary izany dia lehibe sady namirapiratra tsara, nijoro teo anatrehanao izy, ary ny tarehiny dia nahatahotra.
32. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
32. "La tête de cette statue était d`or pur; sa poitrine et ses bras étaient d`argent; son ventre et ses cuisses étaient d`airain;"
32. Ny lohan' izany sary izany dia volamena tsara, ny tratrany sy ny sandriny dia volafotsy, ny kibony sy ny feny dia varahina,
33. His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
33. "ses jambes, de fer; ses pieds, en partie de fer et en partie d`argile."

34. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
34. Tu regardais, lorsqu`une pierre se détacha sans le secours d`aucune main, frappa les pieds de fer et d`argile de la statue, et les mit en pièces.
34. Nijery ianao ambara-pahanisy vato voaendaka, nefa tsy nendahan-tanana, ary namely ilay sary teo amin' ny tongony vy sy tanimanga iny ka nahatorotoro azy.
35. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
35. "Alors le fer, l`argile, l`airain, l`argent et l`or, furent brisés ensemble, et devinrent comme la balle qui s`échappe d`une aire en été; le vent les emporta, et nulle trace n`en fut retrouvée. Mais la pierre qui avait frappé la statue devint une grande montagne, et remplit toute la terre."
35. "Dia niara-torotoro ny vy sy ny tanimanga sy ny varahina sy ny volafotsy ary ny volamena ka tonga toy ny akofa eo am-pamoloana fahavaratra; ary nopaohin' ny rivotra izy, ka tsy nisy hitoerany; ary ilay vato namely ny sary dia tonga tendrombohitra lehibe nahafeno ny tany rehetra."
36. This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
36. Voilà le songe. Nous en donnerons l`explication devant le roi.
36. Izany ilay nofy, ary holazainay eto anatrehan' ny mpanjaka ny heviny.
37. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
37. "O roi, tu es le roi des rois, car le Dieu des cieux t`a donné l`empire, la puissance, la force et la gloire;"
37. Ianao, ry mpanjaka ô, izay mpanjakan' ny mpanjaka sady nomen' Andriamanitry ny lanitra fanjakana sy hery sy fahaleovana ary voninahitra,
38. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
38. il a remis entre tes mains, en quelque lieu qu`ils habitent, les enfants des hommes, les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux du ciel, et il t`a fait dominer sur eux tous: c`est toi qui es la tête d`or.
38. Ka ny zanak' olombelona na aiza na aiza itoerany, sy ny biby eny an-tsaha sy ny voro-manidina eny amin' ny lanitra, dia nomeny ho eo an-tananao, ary nataony ho mpanjakan' izy rehetra ianao, dia ianao izany loha volamena izany.
39. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
39. "Après toi, il s`élèvera un autre royaume, moindre que le tien; puis un troisième royaume, qui sera d`airain, et qui dominera sur toute la terre."
39. Ary manarakaraka anao dia hisy fanjakana hafa hitsangana ambany noho ny anao, ary hisy fanjakana fahatelo koa izay varahina sady hanam-pahefana amin' ny tany rehetra.
40. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
40. "Il y aura un quatrième royaume, fort comme du fer; de même que le fer brise et rompt tout, il brisera et rompra tout, comme le fer qui met tout en pièces."
40. "Ary ny fanjakana fahefatra dia ho mafy toy ny vy; fa toy ny vy manorotoro sy mahamongomongo ny zavatra rehetra, ary toy ny famakivakin' ny vy ireo rehetra ireo, dia toy izany no hamakivakiany sy hanorotoroany azy."
41. And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
41. "Et comme tu as vu les pieds et les orteils en partie d`argile de potier et en partie de fer, ce royaume sera divisé; mais il y aura en lui quelque chose de la force du fer, parce que tu as vu le fer mêlé avec l`argile."
41. "Ary satria hitanao ny tongotra sy ny rantsan-tongotra, fa ny tapany tanimangan' ny mpanefy tanimanga, ary ny tapany vy, dia ho fanjakana mizarazara izy; nefa hisy herim-by ao aminy, satria nahita vy miharo tanimanga mbola fotaka ianao."
42. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
42. Et comme les doigts des pieds étaient en partie de fer et en partie d`argile, ce royaume sera en partie fort et en partie fragile.
42. Ary toy ny rantsan-tongotra, ny tapany vy, ny tapany tanimanga, dia ho toy izany ny fanjakana, ny tapany ho mafy, ary ny tapany ho vakivaky.
43. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
43. "Tu as vu le fer mêlé avec l`argile, parce qu`ils se mêleront par des alliances humaines; mais ils ne seront point unis l`un à l`autre, de même que le fer ne s`allie point avec l`argile."
43. "Ary toy ny nahitanao ny vy miharo tanimanga mbola fotaka, dia ho toy izany no hiharoany amin' ny taranak' olombelona; nefa tsy hitambatra izy, dia toy ny tsy fetezan' ny vy miharo amin' ny tanimanga."
44. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
44. "Dans le temps de ces rois, le Dieu des cieux suscitera un royaume qui ne sera jamais détruit, et qui ne passera point sous la domination d`un autre peuple; il brisera et anéantira tous ces royaumes-là, et lui-même subsistera éternellement."
44. "Ary amin' ny andron' ireo mpanjaka ireo, Andriamanitry ny lanitra dia hanorina fanjakana izay tsy ho rava mandrakizay; ary izany fanjakana izany tsy havela ho an' olon-kafa, fa ireo fanjakana rehetra ireo dia hotorotoroiny sy holevoniny, fa izy kosa hitoetra mandrakizay."
45. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
45. C`est ce qu`indique la pierre que tu as vue se détacher de la montagne sans le secours d`aucune main, et qui a brisé le fer, l`airain, l`argile, l`argent et l`or. Le grand Dieu a fait connaître au roi ce qui doit arriver après cela. Le songe est véritable, et son explication est certaine.
45. Fa toy ilay nahitanao ny vato nendahana tamin' ny tendrombohitra, nefa tsy nendahan-tanana, sy ny nanorotoroany ny vy sy ny varahina sy ny tanimanga sy ny volafotsy ary ny volamena, dia ampahafantarin' Andriamanitra lehibe ny mpanjaka ny amin' ny zavatra ho avy rahatrizay: marina ny nofy, ary tsy maintsy ho tò ny heviny.
46. Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

47. The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

48. Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
48. "Ensuite le roi éleva Daniel, et lui fit de nombreux et riches présents; il lui donna le commandement de toute la province de Babylone, et l`établit chef suprême de tous les sages de Babylone."

49. Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
