Israelites Fight the Benjamites
1. Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.

2. And the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.
2. Les chefs de tout le peuple, toutes les tribus d`Israël, se présentèrent dans l`assemblée du peuple de Dieu: quatre cent mille hommes de pied, tirant l`épée.

3. (Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpeh.) Then said the children of Israel, Tell us, how was this wickedness?
3. Et les fils de Benjamin apprirent que les enfants d`Israël étaient montés à Mitspa. Les enfants d`Israël dirent: Parlez, comment ce crime a-t-il été commis?
3. (Ary ren' ny taranak' i Benjamina fa niakatra ho any Mizpa ny Zanak' Isiraely). Dia hoy ny Zanak' Isiraely: Lazao anay, ahoana no nahatonga izao faharatsiana izao?
4. And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
4. Alors le Lévite, le mari de la femme qui avait été tuée, prit la parole, et dit: J`étais arrivé, avec ma concubine, à Guibea de Benjamin, pour y passer la nuit.
4. Dia namaly ilay Levita, vadin-dravehivavy novonoina, ka nanao hoe: Tonga tany Gibea, izay an' ny Benjamina, izaho sy ny vaditsindranoko handry tao.
5. And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me: and my concubine have they forced, that she is dead.
5. Les habitants de Guibea se sont soulevés contre moi, et ont entouré pendant la nuit la maison où j`étais. Ils avaient l`intention de me tuer, et ils ont fait violence à ma concubine, et elle est morte.

6. And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
6. "J`ai saisi ma concubine, et je l`ai coupée en morceaux, que j`ai envoyés dans tout le territoire de l`héritage d`Israël; car ils ont commis un crime et une infamie en Israël."

7. Behold, ye are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.
7. "Vous voici tous, enfants d`Israël; consultez-vous, et prenez ici une décision!"
7. Koa, indreo ianareo Zanak' Isiraely rehetra, mba omeo eto ny toro-hevitrareo sy ny tolo-tsainareo.
8. And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn into his house.
8. Tout le peuple se leva comme un seul homme, en disant: Nul de nous n`ira dans sa tente, et personne ne retournera dans sa maison.
8. Dia nitsangana tahaka ny olona iray ny vahoaka rehetra ka nanao hoe: Tsy hisy hankany amin' ny laintsika akory isika, ary tsy hisy hody any an-tranontsika akory.
9. But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it;
9. Voici maintenant ce que nous ferons à Guibea: Nous marcherons contre elle d`après le sort.
9. "Fa ankehitriny, izao no hataontsika amin' i Gibea: araka ny antsapaka no hiakarantsika hamely azy;"
10. And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
10. "Nous prendrons dans toutes les tribus d`Israël dix hommes sur cent, cent sur mille, et mille sur dix mille; ils iront chercher des vivres pour le peuple, afin qu`à leur retour on traite Guibea de Benjamin selon toute l`infamie qu`elle a commise en Israël."

11. So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
11. Ainsi tous les hommes d`Israël s`assemblèrent contre la ville, unis comme un seul homme.
11. Dia nivory ny lehilahy rehetra amin' ny Isiraely ka efa nikambana tahaka ny olona iray hamely ny tanàna.
12. And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?
12. Les tribus d`Israël envoyèrent des hommes vers toutes les familles de Benjamin, pour dire: Qu`est-ce que ce crime qui s`est commis parmi vous?
12. Ary ireo foko amin' ny Isiraely ireo dia naniraka olona tany amin' ny fokon' i Benjamina rehetra hanao hoe: Inona izao faharatsiana natao teto aminareo izao?
13. Now therefore deliver us the men, the children of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But the children of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel:
13. Livrez maintenant les gens pervers qui sont à Guibea, afin que nous les fassions mourir et que nous ôtions le mal du milieu d`Israël. Mais les Benjamites ne voulurent point écouter la voix de leurs frères, les enfants d`Israël.
13. Koa ankehitriny, atolory anay ireo lehilahy, zanak' i Beliala avy any Gibea mba hataonay maty izy, ka hoesorinay tsy ho eo amin' Isiraely ny ratsy. Fa ny taranak' i Benjamina tsy nety nihaino ny feon' ny Zanak' Isiraely rahalahiny.
14. But the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
14. Les Benjamites sortirent de leurs villes, et s`assemblèrent à Guibea, pour combattre les enfants d`Israël.
14. Fa nivory ny taranak' i Benjamina avy tamin' ny tanànany rehetra hankany Gibea mba handeha hiady amin' ny Zanak' Isiraely.
15. And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
15. Le dénombrement que l`on fit en ce jour des Benjamites sortis des villes fut de vingt-six mille hommes, tirant l`épée, sans compter les habitants de Guibea formant sept cents hommes d`élite.
15. Dia voaisa tamin' izany andro izany ny taranak' i Benjamina avy tamin' ireo tanàna ireo, ka enina arivo sy roa alin-dahy izay mahatan-tsabatra, afa-tsy ny mponina tao Gibea izay niisa fitonjato ny lehilahy voafantina.
16. Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at an hair breadth, and not miss.
16. "Parmi tout ce peuple, il y avait sept cents hommes d`élite qui ne se servaient pas de la main droite; tous ceux-là pouvaient, en lançant une pierre avec la fronde, viser à un cheveu sans le manquer."

17. And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.
17. On fit aussi le dénombrement des hommes d`Israël, non compris ceux de Benjamin, et l`on en trouva quatre cent mille tirant l`épée, tous gens de guerre.
17. "Ary ny lehilahy voalamina tamin' ny Isiraely, afa-tsy ny Benjamina, dia efatra hetsy nahatan-tsabatra; mpanafika avokoa ireo rehetra ireo."
18. And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.
18. Et les enfants d`Israël se levèrent, montèrent à Béthel, et consultèrent Dieu, en disant: Qui de nous montera le premier pour combattre les fils de Benjamin? l`Éternel répondit: Juda montera le premier.
18. Dia niainga ny Zanak' Isiraely ka niakatra ho any an-tranon' Andriamanitra ary nanontany hevitra tamin' Andriamanitra hoe: Iza aminay no hiakatra voalohany hiady amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina? Dia hoy Jehovah: Joda no hiakatra voalohany.
19. And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
19. Dès le matin, les enfants d`Israël se mirent en marche, et ils campèrent près de Guibea.
19. Dia niainga maraina koa ny Zanak' Isiraely ka nitoby tandrifin' i Gibea.
20. And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in array to fight against them at Gibeah.
20. Et les hommes d`Israël s`avancèrent pour combattre ceux de Benjamin, et ils se rangèrent en bataille contre eux devant Guibea.
20. Ary nivoaka ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely hiady amin' ny Benjamina, ary nilahatra ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely hiady aminy tao Gibea.
21. And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty and two thousand men.
21. Les fils de Benjamin sortirent de Guibea, et ils étendirent sur le sol ce jour-là vingt-deux mille hommes d`Israël.
21. Ary nivoaka avy tao Gibea kosa ny taranak' i Benjamina ka naharingana ny Zanak' Isiraely roa arivo sy roa alin-dahy niampatrampatra tamin' ny tany tamin' izany andro izany.
22. And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day.
22. Le peuple, les hommes d`Israël reprirent courage, et ils se rangèrent de nouveau en bataille dans le lieu où ils s`étaient placés le premier jour.
22. Fa nifampahery ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely ka nilahatra hiady indray teo amin' ilay nilaharany tamin' ny andro voalohany.
23. (And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)
23. "Et les enfants d`Israël montèrent, et ils pleurèrent devant l`Éternel jusqu`au soir; ils consultèrent l`Éternel, en disant: Dois-je m`avancer encore pour combattre les fils de Benjamin, mon frère? L`Éternel répondit: Montez contre lui."
23. (Ary niakatra ny Zanak' Isiraely ka nitomany teo anatrehan' i Jehovah mandra-paharivan' ny andro, dia nanontany hevitra tamin' i Jehovah hoe: Hiakatra indray va aho hiady amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina rahalahiko? Ary hoy Jeho-vah: Miakara hiady aminy).
24. And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
24. Les enfants d`Israël s`avancèrent contre les fils de Benjamin, le second jour.
24. Ary ny Zanak' Isiraely dia nandroso tamin' ny andro faharoa hiady amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina.
25. And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
25. Et ce même jour, les Benjamites sortirent de Guibea à leur rencontre, et ils étendirent encore sur le sol dix-huit mille hommes des enfants d`Israël, tous tirant l`épée.

26. Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
26. "Tous les enfants d`Israël et tout le peuple montèrent et vinrent à Béthel; ils pleurèrent et restèrent là devant l`Éternel, ils jeûnèrent en ce jour jusqu`au soir, et ils offrirent des holocaustes et des sacrifices d`actions de grâces devant l`Éternel."
26. "Dia niakatra ny Zanak' Isiraely rehetra sy ny olona rehetra ka nankany an-tranon' Andriamanitra, dia nitomany sy nipetraka teo anatrehan' i Jehovah ary nifady hanina mandra-paharivan' ny andro tamin' izany andro izany; ary nanolotra fanatitra dorana sy fanati-pihavanana teo anatrehan' i Jehovah izy."
27. And the children of Israel enquired of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
27. Et les enfants d`Israël consultèrent l`Éternel, -c`était là que se trouvait alors l`arche de l`alliance de Dieu,
27. Dia nanontany an' i Jehovah ny Zanak' Isiraely (fa tao ny fiaran' ny faneken' Andriamanitra tamin' izany andro izany,
28. And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for to morrow I will deliver them into thine hand.
28. et c`était Phinées, fils d`Éléazar, fils d`Aaron, qui se tenait à cette époque en présence de Dieu, -et ils dirent: Dois-je marcher encore pour combattre les fils de Benjamin, mon frère, ou dois-je m`en abstenir? L`Éternel répondit: Montez, car demain je les livrerai entre vos mains.
28. Ary Finehasa, zanak' i Eleazara, zanak' i Arona, nijanona teo anoloany tamin' izany andro izany) ka nanao hoe: Mbola hivoaka indray va aho hiady amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina rahalahiko, sa hitsahatra? Ary hoy Jehovah: Miakara, fa rahampitso dia hatolotro ho eo an-tananao izy.
29. And Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah.
29. Alors Israël plaça une embuscade autour de Guibea.
29. Ary nasian' ny Isiraely otrika manodidina an' i Gibea.
30. And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
30. Les enfants d`Israël montèrent contre les fils de Benjamin, le troisième jour, et ils se rangèrent en bataille devant Guibea, comme les autres fois.
30. Dia niakatra ny Zanak' Isiraely tamin' ny andro fahatelo hiady amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina ka nilahatra tandrifin' i Gibea tahaka ilay teo aloha ihany.
31. And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite of the people, and kill, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
31. Et les fils de Benjamin sortirent à la rencontre du peuple, et ils se laissèrent attirer loin de la ville. Ils commencèrent à frapper à mort parmi le peuple comme les autres fois, sur les routes dont l`une monte à Béthel et l`autre à Guibea par la campagne, et ils tuèrent environ trente hommes d`Israël.
31. Dia nivoaka ny taranak' i Benjamina hiady tamin' ny olona ka voatarika niala tamin' ny tanàna izy ary nanomboka namely sy nahafaty ny olona tahaka ny teo aloha, dia tokony ho telopolo lahy teo amin' Isiraely tany amin' ny lalambe izay misampana miakatra ho any an-tranon' Andriamanitra ny iray, ary ny anankiray kosa ho any an-tsaha any Gibea.
32. And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them from the city unto the highways.
32. Les fils de Benjamin disaient: Les voilà battus devant nous comme auparavant! Mais les enfants d`Israël disaient: Fuyons, et attirons-les loin de la ville dans les chemins.
32. Ary hoy ny taranak' i Benjamina: resy eo anoloantsika tahaka ilay teo aloha ihany izy. Fa hoy ny Zanak' Isiraely: Andeha hanao tari-dositra isika mba hampiala azy amin' ny tanàna ho any an-dalambe.
33. And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baaltamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.
33. "Tous les hommes d`Israël quittèrent leur position, et se rangèrent à Baal Thamar; et l`embuscade d`Israël s`élança du lieu où elle était, de Maaré Guibea."
33. "Ary ny lehilahy rehetra amin' ny Isiraely nitsangana niala tamin' ny fitoerany ka nilahatra tany Bala-tamara; ary ny Isiraely izay nanotrika dia niroatra avy tamin' ny fitoerany, avy tao an-tsahan' i Gibea."
34. And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was near them.
34. Dix mille hommes choisis sur tout Israël arrivèrent devant Guibea. Le combat fut rude, et les Benjamites ne se doutaient pas du désastre qu`ils allaient éprouver.
34. Ary tonga tandrifin' i Gibea ny iray alin-dahy voafantina tamin' ny Isiraely rehetra, ary efa mafy ny ady, nefa tsy fantatry ny Benjamita fa efa hiharan-doza izy.
35. And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.
35. L`Éternel battit Benjamin devant Israël, et les enfants d`Israël tuèrent ce jour-là vingt-cinq mille et cent hommes de Benjamin, tous tirant l`épée.
35. "Ary Jehovah namely ny Benjamita teo anoloan' ny Isiraely, ary tamin' izany andro izany ny taranak' i Benjamina dia nahafatesan' ny Zanak' Isiraely zato sy dimy arivo amby roa alin-dahy; nahatan-tsabatra avokoa ireo rehetra ireo."
36. So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set beside Gibeah.
36. Les fils de Benjamin regardaient comme battus les hommes d`Israël, qui cédaient du terrain à Benjamin et se reposaient sur l`embuscade qu`ils avaient placée contre Guibea.
36. "Ary hitan' ny taranak' i Benjamina fa resy izy; fa nanao tari-dositra tamin' ny Benjamita ny lehilahy tamin' ny Isiraely, satria natoky ny otrika izay efa napetrany teo akaikin' i Gibea ireo."
37. And the liers in wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
37. Les gens en embuscade se jetèrent promptement sur Guibea, ils se portèrent en avant et frappèrent toute la ville du tranchant de l`épée.

38. Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.
38. Suivant un signal convenu avec les hommes d`Israël, ceux de l`embuscade devaient faire monter de la ville une épaisse fumée.
38. Ary ny famantarana nifaneken' ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely sy ny otrika dia tsangan' afo lehibe hisavoana ao an-tanàna.
39. And when the men of Israel retired in the battle, Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons: for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.
39. Les hommes d`Israël firent alors volte-face dans la bataille. Les Benjamites leur avaient tué déjà environ trente hommes, et ils disaient: Certainement les voilà battus devant nous comme dans le premier combat!
39. "Ary rehefa nihemotra tamin' ny ady ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely, ny taranaky ny Benjamina kosa nanomboka namely sy nahafaty ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely tokony ho telopolo lahy; fa hoy izy: Resy tokoa eo anoloantsika izy tahaka ny tamin' ny ady voalohany."
40. But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven.
40. "Cependant une épaisse colonne de fumée commençait à s`élever de la ville. Les Benjamites regardèrent derrière eux; et voici, de la ville entière les flammes montaient vers le ciel."
40. Fa raha vao nanomboka niakatra avy tao an-tanàna ny setroka mitankosina, dia niherika teo ivohony ny taranak' i Benjamina, ka indro, niakatra ho amin' ny lanitra ny setroky ny tanàna.
41. And when the men of Israel turned again, the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.
41. "Les hommes d`Israël avaient fait volte-face; et ceux de Benjamin furent épouvantés, en voyant le désastre qui allait les atteindre."
41. Ary raha niverina ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely, dia talanjona ny Benjamita, satria hitany fa efa nidiran-doza izy.
42. Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.
42. Ils tournèrent le dos devant les hommes d`Israël, et s`enfuirent par le chemin du désert. Mais les assaillants s`attachèrent à leurs pas, et ils détruisirent pendant le trajet ceux qui étaient sortis des villes.
42. "Dia niamboho teo anoloan' ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely ho amin' ny lalana ho any an' efitra izy, fa ny ady nahatratra azy; ary izay nivoaka avy tao amin' ny tanàna koa dia novonoiny teo afovoany."
43. Thus they inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trode them down with ease over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.
43. Ils enveloppèrent Benjamin, le poursuivirent, l`écrasèrent dès qu`il voulait se reposer, jusqu`en face de Guibea du côté du soleil levant.
43. Nanemitra ny Benjamita izy ka nanenjika azy ary nanitsaka azy mora foana tandrifin' i Gibea atsinanany.
44. And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour.
44. Il tomba dix-huit mille hommes de Benjamin, tous vaillants.
44. "Ary ny Benjamita dia nahafatesana valo arivo sy iray alin-dahy; lehilahy nahery avokoa ireo rehetra ireo."
45. And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them.
45. "Parmi ceux qui tournèrent le dos pour s`enfuir vers le désert au rocher de Rimmon, les hommes d`Israël en firent périr cinq mille sur les routes; ils les poursuivirent jusqu`à Guideom, et ils en tuèrent deux mille."
45. "Dia nivily ny sisa ka nandositra nankany an' efitra ho any amin'ny harambato any Rimona; ary ny voatsimpona teny an-dalana dia dimy arivo lahy, ary mbola nenjehiny mafy ihany hatrany Gidoma izy ka nahafatesany roa arivo lahy."
46. So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.
46. Le nombre total des Benjamites qui périrent ce jour-là fut de vingt-cinq mille hommes tirant l`épée, tous vaillants.

47. But six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness unto the rock Rimmon, and abode in the rock Rimmon four months.
47. Six cents hommes, qui avaient tourné le dos et qui s`étaient enfuis vers le désert au rocher de Rimmon, demeurèrent là pendant quatre mois.
47. Fa nisy eninjato lahy izay nihodina ka nandositra nankany an' efitra ho any amin' ny harambato any Rimona, dia nitoetra tao amin' ny harambato any Rimona efa-bolana izy.
48. And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beast, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they came to.
48. Les hommes d`Israël revinrent vers les fils de Benjamin, et ils les frappèrent du tranchant de l`épée, depuis les hommes des villes jusqu`au bétail, et tout ce que l`on trouva. Ils mirent aussi le feu à toutes les villes qui existaient.
48. "Ary ny lehilahy amin' ny Isiraely niverina indray tany amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina ka namely azy tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra, hatramin' ny olona tao an-tanàna ka hatramin' ny biby ary izay rehetra azony; ary ny tanàna rehetra izay hitany koa, dia nodorany tamin' ny afo avokoa."
