2. While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
2. (12:4) avant que s`obscurcissent le soleil et la lumière, la lune et les étoiles, et que les nuages reviennent après la pluie,

3. In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
3. (12:5) temps où les gardiens de la maison tremblent, où les hommes forts se courbent, où celles qui moulent s`arrêtent parce qu`elles sont diminuées, où ceux qui regardent par les fenêtres sont obscurcis,
3. Fa amin' izay dia hangovitra ny mpiandry trano, ary hanjoko ny lehilahy matanjaka, ary hitsahatra ny ankizivavy mpitoto satria efa vitsy ireo ary ho maizina ny vehivavy mitsirika eo am-baravarankely,
4. And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
4. (12:6) où les deux battants de la porte se ferment sur la rue quand s`abaisse le bruit de la meule, où l`on se lève au chant de l`oiseau, où s`affaiblissent toutes les filles du chant,
4. "Ary hirindrina ny varavarana kopa-droa mankeny an-dalambe, rehefa malemy ny feon' ny fikosoham-bary; ary ho taitra ny olona, raha vao maneno ny voron-kely, ary halemy feo ny zazavavy mpihira rehetra;"
5. Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
5. "(12:7) où l`on redoute ce qui est élevé, où l`on a des terreurs en chemin, où l`amandier fleurit, où la sauterelle devient pesante, et où la câpre n`a plus d`effet, car l`homme s`en va vers sa demeure éternelle, et les pleureurs parcourent les rues;"
5. "Ary koa hatahotra izay avo izy, ary toa hisy zava-mahatahotra eny an-dalana; ary hamony ny hazo amygdala, ary ny valala aza ho tonga mavesatra, ary hitsahatra ny faniriana zavatra izy; fa mandroso ho amin' ny tranony mandrakizay ny olona, ary ny mpisaona mandehandeha eny an-dalambe;"
6. Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
6. "(12:8) avant que le cordon d`argent se détache, que le vase d`or se brise, que le seau se rompe sur la source, et que la roue se casse sur la citerne;"
6. Dieny tsy mbola mivaha ny kofehy volafotsy ary tsy mbola vaky ny lovia volamena, ary tsy mbola tresaka ny siny ao an-doharano, ary tsy mbola potika ny kodia eo an-davaka famorian-drano.
7. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
7. (12:9) avant que la poussière retourne à la terre, comme elle y était, et que l`esprit retourne à Dieu qui l`a donné.
7. Ka ny vovoka dia hiverina amin' ny tany ho toy ny teo, fa ny fanahy kosa hiverina amin' Andriamanitra, izay nanome izany.
8. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
8. (12:10) Vanité des vanités, dit l`Ecclésiaste, tout est vanité.
8. Zava-poana dia zava-poana, hoy mpitoriteny, zava-poana ny zavatra rehetra.
The Conclusion of the Matter
9. And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
9. (12:11) Outre que l`Ecclésiaste fut un sage, il a encore enseigné la science au peuple, et il a examiné, sondé, mis en ordre un grand nombre de sentences.
9. "Ary koa, satria hendry Mpitoriteny, dia nampianatra ny olona fahalalana izy; eny, nandinika tsara sy nieritreritra ary nandahatra ohabolana maro izy."
10. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
10. "(12:12) L`Ecclésiaste s`est efforcé de trouver des paroles agréables; et ce qui a été écrit avec droiture, ce sont des paroles de vérité."
10. Nikatsaka hahita izay teny mahafinaritra Mpitoriteny, ary izay voasoratra dia mahitsy, dia ny tenin' ny fahamarinana.
11. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
11. "(12:13) Les paroles des sages sont comme des aiguillons; et, rassemblées en un recueil, elles sont comme des clous plantés, données par un seul maître."
11. Ny tenin' ny hendry dia toy ny fanindronan' omby sy toy ny hombo voatsatoky ny mpanangona, omen' ny mpiandry iray.
12. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
12. "(12:14) Du reste, mon fils, tire instruction de ces choses; on ne finirait pas, si l`on voulait faire un grand nombre de livres, et beaucoup d`étude est une fatigue pour le corps."
12. "Ary he koa, anaka! minoa anatra ianao; fa tsy misy farany ny manao boky maro, ary manasatra ny tena ny fianarana be."
13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
13. (12:15) Écoutons la fin du discours: Crains Dieu et observe ses commandements. C`est là ce que doit faire tout homme.
13. "Aoka hohenointsika ny fehin' ny zavatra rehetra: Matahora an' Andriamanitra, ary ny didiny no tandremo; fa izany no tokony hataon' ny olona rehetra."
14. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
14. (12:16) Car Dieu amènera toute oeuvre en jugement, au sujet de tout ce qui est caché, soit bien, soit mal.
14. Fa hoentin' Andriamanitra ho amin' ny fitsarana ny asa rehetra mbamin' ny zava-miafina rehetra, na soa na ratsy.
