Jehoiakim Burns Jeremiah's Scroll
1. And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
1. La quatrième année de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l`Éternel, en ces mots:

2. Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
2. Prends un livre, et tu y écriras toutes les paroles que je t`ai dites sur Israël et sur Juda, et sur toutes les nations, depuis le jour où je t`ai parlé, au temps de Josias, jusqu`à ce jour.

3. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

4. Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.
4. "Jérémie appela Baruc, fils de Nérija; et Baruc écrivit dans un livre, sous la dictée de Jérémie, toutes les paroles que l`Éternel avait dites à Jérémie."
4. "Ary Jeremia niantso an' i Baroka zanak' i Neria; ary dia nosoratan' i Baroka tamin' ny horonam-boky ny tenin' i Jehovah rehetra avy tamin' ny vavan' i Jeremia, dia izay efa nolazainy taminy."
5. And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:
5. Puis Jérémie donna cet ordre à Baruc: Je suis retenu, et je ne peux pas aller à la maison de l`Éternel.
5. Ary Jeremia nandidy an' i Baroka manao hoe: Voahazona aho, ka tsy afaka mankao an-tranon' i Jehovah,
6. Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.
6. "Tu iras toi-même, et tu liras dans le livre que tu as écrit sous ma dictée les paroles de l`Éternel, aux oreilles du peuple, dans la maison de l`Éternel, le jour du jeûne; tu les liras aussi aux oreilles de tous ceux de Juda qui seront venus de leurs villes."
6. "Fa mandehana ianao, ka vakio eo anatrehan' ny vahoaka ao an-tranon' i Jehovah amin' ny andro fifadian-kanina ny tenin' i Jehovah, izay efa nosoratanao avy tamin' ny vavako; ary vakio eo anatrehan' ny Joda rehetra izay tonga avy any amin' ny tanànany koa."
7. It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.
7. "Peut-être l`Éternel écoutera-t-il leurs supplications, et reviendront ils chacun de leur mauvaise voie; car grande est la colère, la fureur dont l`Éternel a menacé ce peuple."
7. "Fa angamba ny fifonany hoborahina eo anatrehan' i Jehovah, ka dia samy hiala amin' ny làlany ratsy avy izy; fa loza ny fahatezerana sy ny fahavinirana izay nolazain' i Jehovah ny amin' ity firenena ity."
8. And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.
8. Baruc, fils de Nérija, fit tout ce que lui avait ordonné Jérémie, le prophète, et lut dans le livre les paroles de l`Éternel, dans la maison de l`Éternel.
8. Ary Baroka, zanak' i Neria, dia nanao araka izay rehetra nandidian' i Jeremia mpaminany azy ka namaky tao amin' ny boky ny tenin' i Jehovah tao an-tranon' i Jehovah.
9. And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.
9. La cinquième année de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, le neuvième mois, on publia un jeûne devant l`Éternel pour tout le peuple de Jérusalem et pour tout le peuple venu des villes de Juda à Jérusalem.
9. Ary izao no niseho tamin' ny volana fahasivy tamin' ny taona fahadimy nanjakan' i Joiakima, zanak' i Josia, mpanjakan' ny Joda, dia niantso fifadian-kanina teo anatrehan' i Jehovah izy tamin' ny vahoaka rehetra tany Jerosalema sy tamin' ny olona rehetra izay efa tonga tany Jerosalema avy eny amin' ny tanànan' ny Joda.
10. Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people.
10. Et Baruc lut dans le livre les paroles de Jérémie, aux oreilles de tout le peuple, dans la maison de l`Éternel, dans la chambre de Guemaria, fils de Schaphan, le secrétaire, dans le parvis supérieur, à l`entrée de la porte neuve de la maison de l`Éternel.
10. Dia novakin' i Baroka tao amin' ny boky ny tenin' i Jeremia teo anatrehan' ny vahoaka rehetra tao an-tranon' i Jehovah, dia tao amin' ny efitranon' i Gemaria zanak' i Safana mpanoratra, teo amin' ny kianja ambony, teo anoloan' ny vavahady vaovao amin' ny tranon' i Jehovah.
11. When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,
11. Michée, fils de Guemaria, fils de Schaphan, ayant entendu toutes les paroles de l`Éternel contenues dans le livre,
11. Ary nony ren' i Mikaia, zanak' i Gemaria, zanak' i Safana, ny tenin' i Jehovah rehetra tamin' ny boky,
12. Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
12. descendit à la maison du roi, dans la chambre du secrétaire, où étaient assis tous les chefs, Élischama, le secrétaire, Delaja, fils de Schemaeja, Elnathan, fils de d`Acbor, Guemaria, fils de Schaphan, Sédécias, fils de Hanania, et tous les autres chefs.
12. 13. Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
13. Et Michée leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu`il avait entendues, lorsque Baruc lisait dans le livre, aux oreilles du peuple.

14. Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
14. Alors tous les chefs envoyèrent vers Baruc Jehudi, fils de Nethania, fils de Schélémia, fils de Cuschi, pour lui dire: Prends en main le livre dans lequel tu as lu, aux oreilles du peuple, et viens! Baruc, fils de Nérija, prit en main le livre, et se rendit auprès d`eux.
14. Koa dia nirahin' ny mpanapaka rehetra Jehody, zanak' i Netania, zanak' i Selemia, zanak' i Kosy, ho any amin' i Baroka hanao hoe: Ento eny an-tananao ny horonam-boky, ilay novakinao teo anatrehan' ny vahoaka, ka mankanesa aty. Dia nentin' i Baroka, zanak' i Neria, teny an-tanany ny horonam-boky, ka dia nankany aminy izy.
15. And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.
15. Ils lui dirent: Assieds-toi, et lis-le à nos oreilles. Et Baruc lut à leurs oreilles.
15. Ary hoy izy ireo taminy: Mipetraha àry ankehitriny ka vakio ho renay. Dia novakin' i Baroka teo anatrehany izany.
16. Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
16. Lorsqu`ils eurent entendu toutes les paroles, ils se regardèrent avec effroi les uns les autres, et ils dirent à Baruc: Nous rapporterons au roi toutes ces paroles.
16. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa reny ny teny rehetra dia natahotra izy samy izy, ka hoy izy tamin' i Baroka: Tsy maintsy holazainay amin' ny mpanjaka izany teny rehetra izany.
17. And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?
17. Ils posèrent encore à Baruc cette question: Dis-nous comment tu as écrit toutes ces paroles sous sa dictée.

18. Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
18. Baruc leur répondit: Il m`a dicté de sa bouche toutes ces paroles, et je les ai écrites dans ce livre avec de l`encre.
18. Dia namaly azy Baroka hoe: Ny vavany no nanonona izany teny rehetra izany tamiko ka nosoratako tao amin' ny boky tamin' ny ranomainty.
19. Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
19. Les chefs dirent à Baruc: Va, cache-toi, ainsi que Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous êtes.

20. And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
20. Ils allèrent ensuite vers le roi dans la cour, laissant le livre dans la chambre d`Élischama, le secrétaire, et ils en rapportèrent toutes les paroles aux oreilles du roi.
20. Dia niditra tao amin' ny mpanjaka teo amin' ny kianja izy ireo, fa ny horonam-boky napetrany teo amin' ny efitranon' i Elisama mpanoratra, ary nambarany teo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka ny teny rehetra.
21. So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.
21. Le roi envoya Jehudi pour prendre le livre, Jehudi le prit dans la chambre d`Élischama, le secrétaire, et il le lut aux oreilles du roi et aux oreilles de tous les chefs qui étaient auprès du roi.
21. Ary nirahin' ny mpanjaka Jehody haka ilay horonam-boky, dia nalainy tao amin' ny efitranon' i Elisama mpanoratra izany.Ary dia novakin' i Jehody teo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka sy ny mpanapaka rehetra izay nitsangana teo anatrehan' ny mpanjaka izany.
22. Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
22. Le roi était assis dans la maison d`hiver, -c`était au neuvième mois, -et un brasier était allumé devant lui.
22. Ary ny mpanjaka nipetraka tao an-trano ririnina tamin' ny volana fahasivy, sady nisy afo nirehitra teo am-patana teo anoloany.
23. And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
23. Lorsque Jehudi eut lu trois ou quatre feuilles, le roi coupa le livre avec le canif du secrétaire, et le jeta dans le feu du brasier, où il fut entièrement consumé.
23. Ary izao no niseho, nony efa namaky takelaka telo na efatra Jehody, dia notapatapahin' ny mpanjaka tamin' ny antsipika ny horonam-boky ka natsipiny tao anaty afo tao am-patana, mandra-pahalevon' ny afo azy rehetra teo am-patana.
24. Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
24. Le roi et tous ses serviteurs, qui entendirent toutes ces paroles, ne furent point effrayés et ne déchirèrent point leurs vêtements.
24. Nefa tsy natahotra akory ireo na nandriatra ny fitafiany, na ny mpanjaka, na ny mpanompony rehetra, izay efa nandre izany teny rehetra izany.
25. Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.
25. "Elnathan, Delaja et Guemaria, avaient fait des instances auprès du roi pour qu`il ne brûlât pas le livre; mais il ne les écouta pas."
25. Ary na dia efa nifona tamin' ny mpanjaka aza Elnatana sy Delaia ary Gemaria, mba tsy handoro ny horonam-boky dia tsy nety nihaino azy izy.
26. But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.
26. Le roi ordonna à Jerachmeel, fils du roi, à Seraja, fils d`Azriel, et à Schélémia, fils d`Abdeel, de saisir Baruc, le secrétaire, et Jérémie, le prophète. Mais l`Éternel les cacha.
26. Fa ny mpanjaka nandidy an' i Jeremela, zanak' i Hameleka sy Seraia, zanak' i Azriela, ary Selemia, zanak' i Abdela, hisambotra an' i Baroka mpanoratra sy Jeremia mpaminany, fa nafenin' i Jehovah izy ireo.
27. Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
27. La parole de l`Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie, en ces mots, après que le roi eut brûlé le livre contenant les paroles que Baruc avait écrites sous la dictée de Jérémie:
27. Dia tonga tamin' i Jeremia ny tenin' i Jehovah, taorian' ny nandoroan' ny mpanjaka ny horonam-boky sy ny teny izay nosoratan' i Baroka avy tamin' ny vavan' i Jeremia nanao hoe:
28. Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.
28. Prends de nouveau un autre livre, et tu y écriras toutes les paroles qui étaient dans le premier livre qu`a brûlé Jojakim, roi de Juda.
28. Makà horonam-boky hafa koa indray ianao, ka soraty ao ireo teny rehetra teo aloha tamin' ny horonam-boky voalohany, dia ilay nodoran' i Joiakima, mpanjakan' ny Joda.
29. And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
29. Et sur Jojakim, roi de Juda, tu diras: Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Tu as brûlé ce livre, en disant: Pourquoi y as-tu écrit ces paroles: Le roi de Babylone viendra, il détruira ce pays, et il en fera disparaître les hommes et les bêtes?
29. Ary ny amin' i Joiakima, mpanjakan' ny Joda, dia holazainao hoe: Izao no lazain' i Jehovah: Ianao efa nandoro iny horonam-boky iny ka nanao hoe: Nahoana no nanoratanao tamin' iny hoe: Ho avy tokoa ny mpanjakan' i Babylona ka handrava ity tany ity sy hahalany ritra ny olona mbamin' ny biby eto?
30. Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
30. C`est pourquoi ainsi parle l`Éternel sur Jojakim, roi de Juda: Aucun des siens ne sera assis sur le trône de David, et son cadavre sera exposé à la chaleur pendant le jour et au froid pendant la nuit.
30. "Koa izao no lazain' i Jehovah ny amin' i Joiakima, mpanjakan' ny Joda: Tsy hanana fara handimby eo amin' ny sezafiandrianan' i Davida izy; ary ny fatiny dia hariana ka hasian' ny hainandro amin' ny antoandro ary ny fanala amin' ny alina."
31. And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.
31. Je le châtierai, lui, sa postérité, et ses serviteurs, à cause de leur iniquité, et je ferai venir sur eux, sur les habitants de Jérusalem et sur les hommes de Juda tous les malheurs dont je les ai menacés, sans qu`ils aient voulu m`écouter.
31. "Ary hofaiziko izy mbamin' ny taranany sy ny mpanompony noho ny helony; ary hataoko mihatra aminy sy amin' ny mponina any Jerosalema ary amin' ny lehilahy amin' ny Joda ny loza rehetra izay nolazaiko hatao aminy, fa tsy nohenoiny."
32. Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
32. Jérémie prit un autre livre, et le donna à Baruc, fils de Nérija, le secrétaire. Baruc y écrivit, sous la dictée de Jérémie, toutes les paroles du livre qu`avait brûlé au feu Jojakim, roi de Juda. Beaucoup d`autres paroles semblables y furent encore ajoutées.
32. Ary Jeremia dia naka horonam-boky hafa, ka natolony an' i Baroka mpanoratra, zanak' i Neria, izay nanoratra tao avy amin' ny vavan' i Jeremia ny teny rehetra tao amin' ilay horonam-boky efa nodoran' i Joiakima, mpanjakan' i Joda tamin' ny afo, sady nampiany teny maro tahaka ireny koa aza.
