1. The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

2. To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
2. La parole de l`Éternel lui fut adressée au temps de Josias, fils d`Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne,

3. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
3. et au temps de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu`à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu`à l`époque où Jérusalem fut emmenée en captivité, au cinquième mois.

The Call of Jeremiah
4. Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
4. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

5. Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
5. Avant que je t`eusse formé dans le ventre de ta mère, je te connaissais, et avant que tu fusses sorti de son sein, je t`avais consacré, je t`avais établi prophète des nations.
5. "Hatry ny fony ianao tsy mbola noforoniko tany an-kibo no efa fantatro; ary hatry ny fony ianao tsy mbola teraka no efa nohamasiniko sy notendreko ho mpaminany ho an' ny firenena maro."
6. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
6. Je répondis: Ah! Seigneur Éternel! voici, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant.

7. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
7. Et l`Éternel me dit: Ne dis pas: Je suis un enfant. Car tu iras vers tous ceux auprès de qui je t`enverrai, et tu diras tout ce que je t`ordonnerai.
7. "Fa hoy Jehovah tamiko: Aza manao hoe: Mbola zaza aho; fa handeha amin' izay rehetra hanirahako anao ianao, ary izay rehetra handidiako anao no hambaranao."
8. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
8. Ne les crains point, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l`Éternel.
8. Aza matahotra ny tavany ianao, fa momba anao hamonjy anao Aho, hoy Jehovah.
9. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
9. "Puis l`Éternel étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche; et l`Éternel me dit: Voici, je mets mes paroles dans ta bouche."
9. Dia naninjitra ny tanany Jehovah ka nanendry ny vavako, ary hoy Jehovah tamiko: Indro, efa nataoko ao am-bavanao ny teniko,
10. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
10. Regarde, je t`établis aujourd`hui sur les nations et sur les royaumes, pour que tu arraches et que tu abattes, pour que tu ruines et que tu détruises, pour que tu bâtisses et que tu plantes.

11. Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.
11. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots: Que vois-tu, Jérémie? Je répondis: Je vois une branche d`amandier.
11. Ary tonga tamiko indray ny tenin' i Jehovah nanao hoe: Ry Jeremia, inona izao hitanao izao? Ary hoy aho: Rantsan-kazo amygdala no hitako.
12. Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
12. "Et l`Éternel me dit: Tu as bien vu; car je veille sur ma parole, pour l`exécuter."
12. "Dia hoy Jehovah tamiko: Marina ny ahitanao azy; fa hanafaingana ny teniko aho hanatanterahako izany."
13. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
13. La parole de l`Éternel me fut adressée une seconde fois, en ces mots: Que vois-tu? Je répondis: Je vois une chaudière bouillante, du côté du septentrion.
13. Ary tonga tamiko fanindroany ny tenin' i Jehovah nanao hoe: Inona izao hitanao izao? Ary hoy aho: Vilany mangotraka no hitako, ary mitongilana mianavaratra ny vavany.
14. Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
14. Et l`Éternel me dit: C`est du septentrion que la calamité se répandra sur tous les habitants du pays.
14. Dia hoy Jehovah tamiko: Hiroatra avy any avaratra ny loza hanjo ny mponina rehetra amin' ny tany.
15. For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.
15. "Car voici, je vais appeler tous les peuples des royaumes du septentrion, dit l`Éternel; ils viendront, et placeront chacun leur siège à l`entrée des portes de Jérusalem, contre ses murailles tout alentour, et contre toutes les villes de Juda."
15. "Fa, indro, hantsoiko ny firenena rehetra amin' ny fanjakana any avaratra, hoy Jehovah; dia ho tonga izy, ka samy hametraka ny sezafiandrianany eo anoloan' ny vavahadin' i Jerosalema avokoa hamelezany ny mandany rehetra manodidina sy ny tanàna rehetra any Joda."
16. And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
16. Je prononcerai mes jugements contre eux, à cause de toute leur méchanceté, parce qu`ils m`ont abandonné et ont offert de l`encens à d`autres dieux, et parce qu`ils se sont prosternés devant l`ouvrage de leurs mains.
16. Ary hifandahatra aminy Aho noho ny haratsiany rehetra, dia ny nahafoizany Ahy sy ny nandoroany ditin-kazo manitra ho an' ny andriamani-kafa ary ny niankohofany teo anatrehan' ny asan' ny tanany.
17. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.
17. Et toi, ceins tes reins, lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que je t`ordonnerai. Ne tremble pas en leur présence, de peur que je ne te fasse trembler devant eux.
17. Fa ianao kosa dia misikìna, ary mitsangàna, ka lazao aminy izay rehetra andidiako anao: aza mivadi-po noho ny amin' ny endriny, fandrao hataoko raiki-tahotra eo anatrehany ianao.
18. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
18. Voici, je t`établis en ce jour sur tout le pays comme une ville forte, une colonne de fer et un mur d`airain, contre les rois de Juda, contre ses chefs, contre ses sacrificateurs, et contre le peuple du pays.
18. Indro, Izaho hanao anao ho tanàna mimanda sy andry vy ary manda varahina mba tsy ho leon' ny tany rehetra, na ny mpanjakan' ny Joda, na ny lehibeny, na ny mpisorony, na ny vahoaka eo amin' ny tany.
19. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
19. "Ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne te vaincront pas; car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l`Éternel."
