The Israelites Oppressed
1. Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
1. Voici les noms des fils d`Israël, venus en Égypte avec Jacob et la famille de chacun d`eux:

2. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

2. Robena sy Simeona sy Levy ary Joda,
3. Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
3. Issacar, Zabulon, Benjamin,
3. Isakara sy Zebolona ary Benjamina,
4. Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
4. Dan, Nephthali, Gad et Aser.
4. Dana sy Naftaly ary Gada sy Asera.
5. And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
5. Les personnes issues de Jacob étaient au nombre de soixante-dix en tout. Joseph était alors en Égypte.

6. And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
6. Joseph mourut, ainsi que tous ses frères et toute cette génération-là.

7. And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
7. Les enfants d`Israël furent féconds et multiplièrent, ils s`accrurent et devinrent de plus en plus puissants. Et le pays en fut rempli.
7. Ary ny Zanak' Isiraely niteraka ka nitombo betsaka sy nihamaro ary nihahery dia nihahery indrindra, ka dia henika azy ny tany.
8. Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
8. Il s`éleva sur l`Égypte un nouveau roi, qui n`avait point connu Joseph.
8. Ary nisy mpanjaka vaovao nitsangana tany Egypta, izay tsy nahalala an' i Josefa.
9. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
9. Il dit à son peuple: Voilà les enfants d`Israël qui forment un peuple plus nombreux et plus puissant que nous.
9. "Ary izy niteny tamin' ny vahoakany hoe: Indro, ny firenen' ny Zanak' Isiraely efa maro sy mahery noho isika;"
10. Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
10. "Allons! montrons-nous habiles à son égard; empêchons qu`il ne s`accroisse, et que, s`il survient une guerre, il ne se joigne à nos ennemis, pour nous combattre et sortir ensuite du pays."
10. Andeha hanaovantsika hevitra am-pahendrena izy ireo, fandrao hihamaro izy, ka izao no hiseho raha tàhiny hisy ady, dia homba ny fahavalontsika koa izy ka hiady amintsika, ary dia hiakatra hiala amin' ny tany.
11. Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
11. Et l`on établit sur lui des chefs de corvées, afin de l`accabler de travaux pénibles. C`est ainsi qu`il bâtit les villes de Pithom et de Ramsès, pour servir de magasins à Pharaon.
11. Koa dia nanendreny mpifehy izy, mba hampahory azy amin' ny fanompoany mafy. Ary nanao tanàna fitehirizana ho an' i Farao izy, dia Pitoma sy Ramesesa.
12. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.
12. "Mais plus on l`accablait, plus il multipliait et s`accroissait; et l`on prit en aversion les enfants d`Israël."
12. "Nefa arakaraka ny nampahoriany azy no vao mainka nihamaroany sy nitomboany kosa; ka dia natahotra ny Zanak' Isiraely indrindra ny Egyptiana."
13. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
13. Alors les Égyptiens réduisirent les enfants d`Israël à une dure servitude.
13. Dia nampanompoin' ny Egyptiana fatratra ny Zanak' Isiraely:
14. And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
14. Ils leur rendirent la vie amère par de rudes travaux en argile et en briques, et par tous les ouvrages des champs: et c`était avec cruauté qu`ils leur imposaient toutes ces charges.
14. Ka nataony mangidy ny fiainany tamin' ny fanompoana mafy, dia tamin' ny feta sy ny biriky mbamin' ny fanompoana rehetra any an-tsaha, dia ny fanompoana rehetra izay nampanompoany azy fatratra.
15. And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
15. Le roi d`Égypte parla aussi aux sages-femmes des Hébreux, nommées l`une Schiphra, et l`autre Pua.
15. "Ary niteny tamin' ny mpampivelona Hebreo ny mpanjakan' i Egypta, Sifra no anaran' ny iray, ary Poa no anaran' ny anankiray;"
16. And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
16. "Il leur dit: Quand vous accoucherez les femmes des Hébreux et que vous les verrez sur les sièges, si c`est un garçon, faites-le mourir; si c`est une fille, laissez-la vivre."
16. Ka nanao hoe: Raha mampivelona ny vehivavy Hebreo ianareo, ka hitanareo eo amin' ny fipetrahany fa zazalahy, dia vonoy, fa raha zazavavy kosa, dia velomy.
17. But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
17. "Mais les sages-femmes craignirent Dieu, et ne firent point ce que leur avait dit le roi d`Égypte; elles laissèrent vivre les enfants."
17. Nefa natahotra an' Andriamanitra ny mpampivelona ka tsy nanao araka izay nandidian' ny mpanjakan' i Egypta azy, fa novelominy ihany ny zazalahy.
18. And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
18. Le roi d`Égypte appela les sages-femmes, et leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous agi ainsi, et avez-vous laissé vivre les enfants?
18. Dia nampiantso ny mpampivelona ny mpanjakan' i Egypta ka nanao taminy hoe: Nahoana no nanao izany zavatra izany ianareo, ka novelominareo ihany ny zazalahy?
19. And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
19. "Les sages-femmes répondirent à Pharaon: C`est que les femmes des Hébreux ne sont pas comme les Égyptiennes; elles sont vigoureuses et elles accouchent avant l`arrivée de la sage-femme."
19. "Fa hoy ny mpampivelona tamin' i Farao: Tsy mba tahaka ny vehivavy Egyptiana ny vehivavy Hebreo; fa matanjaka izy, ka raha tsy mbola tonga any aminy akory ny mpampivelona, dia velona izy."
20. Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
20. "Dieu fit du bien aux sages-femmes; et le peuple multiplia et devint très nombreux."
20. Dia nasian' Andriamanitra soa ny mpampivelona: ary nihamaro sy nihanahery indrindra ny olona.
21. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
21. Parce que les sages-femmes avaient eu la crainte de Dieu, Dieu fit prospérer leurs maisons.
21. Ary izao no niseho, satria natahotra an' Andriamanitra ny mpampivelona dia nanaovan' Andriamanitra trano izy ireo.
22. And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
22. Alors Pharaon donna cet ordre à tout son peuple: Vous jetterez dans le fleuve tout garçon qui naîtra, et vous laisserez vivre toutes les filles.
22. Dia nandidy ny vahoakany rehetra Farao ka nanao hoe: Ny zazalahy rehetra izay teraka dia ario ao amin' ny renirano, fa ny zazavavy rehetra kosa no velomy.
