Israel Fights the Remaining Canaanites
1. Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2. And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
2. L`Éternel répondit: Juda montera, voici, j`ai livré le pays entre ses mains.
2. "Dia hoy Jehovah: Joda no hiakatra; indro, efa nanolotra ny tany ho eo an-tanany Aho."
3. And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
3. "Et Juda dit à Siméon, son frère: Monte avec moi dans le pays qui m`est échu par le sort, et nous combattrons les Cananéens; j`irai aussi avec toi dans celui qui t`est tombé en partage. Et Siméon alla avec lui."

4. And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
4. "Juda monta, et l`Éternel livra entre leurs mains les Cananéens et les Phéréziens; ils battirent dix mille hommes à Bézek."

5. And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
5. "Ils trouvèrent Adoni Bézek à Bézek; ils l`attaquèrent, et ils battirent les Cananéens et les Phéréziens."

6. But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

7. And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

8. Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
8. Les fils de Juda attaquèrent Jérusalem et la prirent, ils la frappèrent du tranchant de l`épée et mirent le feu à la ville.

9. And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
9. Les fils de Juda descendirent ensuite, pour combattre les Cananéens qui habitaient la montagne, la contrée du midi et la plaine.

10. And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
10. "Juda marcha contre les Cananéens qui habitaient à Hébron, appelée autrefois Kirjath Arba; et il battit Schéschaï, Ahiman et Talmaï."

11. And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:
11. De là il marcha contre les habitants de Debir: Debir s`appelait autrefois Kirjath Sépher.
11. Dia niala tao izy ka nandeha hiady amin' ny mponina any Debira (Kiriata-sefera no anaran' i Debira taloha).
12. And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
12. Caleb dit: Je donnerai ma fille Acsa pour femme à celui qui battra Kirjath Sépher et qui la prendra.
12. Ary hoy Kaleba: Izay mamely an' i Kiriata-sefera ka mahafaka azy dia homeko azy i Aksa zanako vavy ho vadiny.
13. And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
13. "Othniel, fils de Kenaz, frère cadet de Caleb, s`en empara; et Caleb lui donna pour femme sa fille Acsa."
13. "Ary Otniela, zanakalahin' i Kenaza, zandrin' i Kaleba, no nahafaka azy; ka dia nomeny azy Aksa zanany vavy ho vadiny."
14. And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
14. "Lorsqu`elle fut entrée chez Othniel, elle le sollicita de demander à son père un champ. Elle descendit de dessus son âne; et Caleb lui dit: Qu`as-tu?"
14. "Ary izao no niseho, rehefa voampakatra ravehivavy, dia nanetsika azy ny lahy hangataka saha tamin-drainy; dia niala faingana tamin' ny boriky ravehivavy, ka hoy Kaleba taminy: Inona moa no ilainao?"
15. And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
15. "Elle lui répondit: Fais-moi un présent, car tu m`as donné une terre du midi; donne-moi aussi des sources d`eau. Et Caleb lui donna les sources supérieures et les sources inférieures."
15. "Ary hoy izy taminy: Omeo tsodrano aho; fa ny tany atsimo no nomenao ahy; ka mba omeo loharano koa aho. Ka dia nomen' i Kaleba azy ny loharano ambony sy ny loharano ambany."
16. And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
16. Les fils du Kénien, beau-père de Moïse, montèrent de la ville des palmiers, avec les fils de Juda, dans le désert de Juda au midi d`Arad, et ils allèrent s`établir parmi le peuple.

17. And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
17. "Juda se mit en marche avec Siméon, son frère, et ils battirent les Cananéens qui habitaient à Tsephath; ils dévouèrent la ville par interdit, et on l`appela Horma."
17. Ary nandeha niaraka tamin' i Simeona rahalahiny i Joda, dia namely ny Kananita, izay nonina tany Zarefata, ka nataony ringana tokoa ireo, ary nataony hoe Horma ny anaran' ny tanàna.
18. Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
18. Juda s`empara encore de Gaza et de son territoire, d`Askalon et de son territoire, et d`Ékron et de son territoire.
18. Dia azon' i Joda koa Gaza mbamin' ny sisin-taniny ary Askelona mbamin' ny sisin-taniny ary Ekrona mbamin' ny sisin-taniny.
19. And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
19. "L`Éternel fut avec Juda; et Juda se rendit maître de la montagne, mais il ne put chasser les habitants de la plaine, parce qu`ils avaient des chars de fer."
19. "Ary Jehovah nomba an' i Joda, ka dia noroahiny ny mponina tany an-tendrombohitra; nefa tsy naharoaka ny mponina teny an-dohasaha izy, satria nanana kalesy vy ireny."
20. And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
20. "On donna Hébron à Caleb, comme l`avait dit Moïse; et il en chassa les trois fils d`Anak."
20. Ary Hebrona dia nomeny an' i Kaleba araka izay nolazain' i Mosesy, ka noroahin' i Kaleba niala tao izy telo lahy taranak' i Anaka.
21. And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
21. "Les fils de Benjamin ne chassèrent point les Jébusiens qui habitaient à Jérusalem; et les Jébusiens ont habité jusqu`à ce jour dans Jérusalem avec les fils de Benjamin."
21. "Ary ny taranak' i Benjamina tsy nandroaka ny Jebosita izay mponina any Jerosalema; fa ny Jebosita dia miara-monina amin' ny taranak' i Benjamina any Jerosalema ihany mandraka androany."
22. And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.
22. La maison de Joseph monta aussi contre Béthel, et l`Éternel fut avec eux.
22. "Ary ny taranak' i Josefa koa dia niakatra hamely an' i Betela; ary Jehovah nomba azy,"
23. And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
23. La maison de Joseph fit explorer Béthel, qui s`appelait autrefois Luz.
23. "Dia naniraka hisafo an' i Betela ny taranak' i Josefa (Lozy no anaran' ny tanàna taloha);"
24. And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
24. Les gardes virent un homme qui sortait de la ville, et ils lui dirent: Montre-nous par où nous pourrons entrer dans la ville, et nous te ferons grâce.
24. Ary nahita lehilahy anankiray nivoaka avy tao an-tanàna ny mpisafo ka nanao taminy hoe: Masìna ianao, atoroy anay ny fidirana mankao an-tanàna, dia hamindra fo aminao izahay.
25. And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
25. "Il leur montra par où ils pourraient entrer dans la ville. Et ils frappèrent la ville du tranchant de l`épée; mais ils laissèrent aller cet homme et toute sa famille."
25. "Ary rehefa natoron-dralehilahy azy ny fidirana mankao an-tanàna, dia novonoiny tamin' ny lelan-tsabatra ny tanàna; fa ralehilahy sy ny mpianakaviny rehetra kosa navelany handeha."
26. And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
26. "Cet homme se rendit dans le pays des Héthiens; il bâtit une ville, et lui donna le nom de Luz, nom qu`elle a porté jusqu`à ce jour."
26. Ary nandeha ho any amin' ny tanin' ny Hetita ralehilahy, ka nanorina tanàna izy, ary ny anarany nataony hoe Lozy, ary mbola izany ihany no anarany mandraka androany.
27. Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
27. "Manassé ne chassa point les habitants de Beth Schean et des villes de son ressort, de Thaanac et des villes de son ressort, de Dor et des villes de son ressort, de Jibleam et des villes de son ressort, de Meguiddo et des villes de son ressort; et les Cananéens voulurent rester dans ce pays."
27. Ary Manase koa tsy naharoaka ny mponin' i Beti-sana sy ny zana-bohiny, na i Tanaka sy ny zana-bohiny, na ny mponina tany Dora sy ny zana-bohiny, na ny mponina tany Ibleama sy ny zana-bohiny, na ny mponina tany Megido sy ny zana-bohiny, fa tian' ny Kananita hitoerana izany tany izany.
28. And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
28. Lorsqu`Israël fut assez fort, il assujettit les Cananéens à un tribut, mais il ne les chassa point.
28. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa nihanahery kosa ny Isiraely, dia nampandoaviny hetra ny Kananita, fa tsy nandroaka azy rehetra izy.
29. Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
29. Éphraïm ne chassa point les Cananéens qui habitaient à Guézer, et les Cananéens habitèrent au milieu d`Éphraïm à Guézer.
29. "Ary Efraima tsy nandroaka ny Kananita, izay nonina tany Gazera; fa nonina teo aminy tany Gazera ny Kananita."
30. Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
30. "Zabulon ne chassa point les habitants de Kitron, ni les habitants de Nahalol; et les Cananéens habitèrent au milieu de Zabulon, mais ils furent assujettis à un tribut."
30. "Zebolona tsy nandroaka ny mponina tany Kitrona, na ny mponina tany Nahalola; fa nonina teo aminy ny Kananita ka nanjary nandoa hetra."
31. Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
31. "Aser ne chassa point les habitants d`Acco, ni les habitants de Sidon, ni ceux d`Achlal, d`Aczib, de Helba, d`Aphik et de Rehob;"
31. "Asera tsy nandroaka ny mponina tany Ako, na ny mponina tany Sidona, na ny tany Alaba, na ny tany Akziba, na ny tany Helba, na ny tany Afika, na ny tany Rehoba;"
32. But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
32. et les Asérites habitèrent au milieu des Cananéens, habitants du pays, car ils ne les chassèrent point.
32. Fa nonina tao amin' ny Kananita tompon-tany ny taranak' i Asera, fa tsy nandroaka azy.
33. Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.
33. Nephthali ne chassa point les habitants de Beth Schémesch, ni les habitants de Beth Anath, et il habita au milieu des Cananéens, habitants du pays, mais les habitants de Beth Schémesch et de Beth Anath furent assujettis à un tribut.
33. Naftaly tsy nandroaka ny mponina tany Beti-semesy, na ny mponina tany Beti-anata, fa nonina teo amin' ny Kananita tompon-tany izy, kanefa nandoa hetra taminy ny mponina tany Beti-semesy sy Beti-anata.
34. And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
34. Les Amoréens repoussèrent dans la montagne les fils de Dan, et ne les laissèrent pas descendre dans la plaine.
34. Ary ny Amorita nanesika ny taranak' i Dana ho any an-tendrombohitra, fa tsy namela azy hidina ho any an-dohasaha,
35. But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
35. "Les Amoréens voulurent rester à Har Hérès, à Ajalon et à Schaalbim; mais la main de la maison de Joseph s`appesantit sur eux, et ils furent assujettis à un tribut."
35. "Fa tian' ny Amorita hitoerana ny tendrombohitra Heresa any Aialona sy any Salbima; nefa nahery ny tanan' ny taranak' i Josefa, ka dia tonga mpandoa hetra ireo."
36. And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
36. Le territoire des Amoréens s`étendait depuis la montée d`Akrabbim, depuis Séla, et en dessus.
36. Ary ny faritanin' ny Amorita dia hatramin' ny fiakarana Akrabima ka hatramin' ilay harambato no ho miakatra.
