1. At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:

And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

"On les étendra devant le soleil, devant la lune, et devant toute l`armée des cieux, qu`ils ont aimés, qu`ils ont servis, qu`ils ont suivis, qu`ils ont recherchés, et devant lesquels ils se sont prosternés; on ne les recueillera point, on ne les enterrera point, et ils seront comme du fumier sur la terre."

3. And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith the LORD of hosts.
3. La mort sera préférable à la vie pour tous ceux qui resteront de cette race méchante, dans tous les lieux où je les aurai chassés, dit l`Éternel des armées.

Sin and Punishment
4. Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
4. Dis-leur: Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Est-ce que l`on tombe sans se relever? Ou se détourne-t-on sans revenir?

5. Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

6. I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.

7. Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.
7. "Même la cigogne connaît dans les cieux sa saison; La tourterelle, l`hirondelle et la grue Observent le temps de leur arrivée; Mais mon peuple ne connaît pas la loi de l`Éternel."
7. "Na dia ny vano eny amin' ny lanitra aza dia mahalala ny fotoan' androny, ary ny domohina sy ny sidintsidina ary ny vanobe koa samy mitandrina ny fotoana fiaviany; fa ny oloko kosa tsy mahalala ny fitsaran' i Jehovah."
8. How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.
8. Comment pouvez-vous dire: Nous sommes sages, La loi de l`Éternel est avec nous? C`est bien en vain que s`est mise à l`oeuvre La plume mensongère des scribes.
8. Ahoana no anaovanareo hoe: Hendry izahay, ary ato aminay ny lalàn' i Jehovah? Indro, foana ny nanaovany izany, ary foana ny fanoratan' ny mpanoratra.
9. The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?
9. "Les sages sont confondus, Ils sont consternés, ils sont pris; Voici, ils ont méprisé la parole de l`Éternel, Et quelle sagesse ont-ils?"
9. "Menatra ny hendry, raiki-tahotra sy voasambotra izy; indro, ny tenin' i Jehovah dia nolaviny, ka fahendrena inona no ao aminy?"
10. Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
10. "C`est pourquoi je donnerai leurs femmes à d`autres, Et leurs champs à ceux qui les déposséderont. Car depuis le plus petit jusqu`au plus grand, Tous sont avides de gain; Depuis le prophète jusqu`au sacrificateur, Tous usent de tromperie."

11. For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
11. Ils pansent à la légère la plaie de la fille de mon peuple: Paix! paix! disent-ils. Et il n`y a point de paix.

12. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
12. "Ils seront confus, car ils commettent des abominations; Ils ne rougissent pas, ils ne connaissent pas la honte; C`est pourquoi ils tomberont avec ceux qui tombent, Ils seront renversés quand je les châtierai, Dit l`Éternel."
12. "Menatra va izy raha nanao fahavetavetana? Tsia, tsy menatra izy, na nivoaramena akory; koa ho lavo eo amin' izay lavo izy, amin' ny andro hamaliana azy dia hazera izy, hoy Jehovah."
13. I will surely consume them, saith the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.
13. "Je veux en finir avec eux, dit l`Éternel; Il n`y aura plus de raisins à la vigne, Plus de figues au figuier, Et les feuilles se flétriront; Ce que je leur avais donné leur échappera. -"
13. "Holevoniko tokoa izy, hoy Jehovah, tsy hamoa ny voaloboka, tsy hisy voany ny aviavy, ary halazo ny ravina; ary izay zavatra nomeko azy hiala aminy."
14. Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.
14. Pourquoi restons-nous assis? Rassemblez-vous, et allons dans les villes fortes, Pour y périr! Car l`Éternel, notre Dieu, nous destine à la mort, Il nous fait boire des eaux empoisonnées, Parce que nous avons péché contre l`Éternel.

15. We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!
15. "Nous espérions la paix, et il n`arrive rien d`heureux; Un temps de guérison, et voici la terreur! -"

16. The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.
16. "Le hennissement de ses chevaux se fait entendre du côté de Dan, Et au bruit de leur hennissement toute la terre tremble; Ils viennent, ils dévorent le pays et ce qu`il renferme, La ville et ceux qui l`habitent."

17. For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD.
17. "Car j`envoie parmi vous des serpents, des basilics, Contre lesquels il n`y a point d`enchantement; Ils vous mordront, dit l`Éternel."

18. When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me.
18. "Je voudrais soulager ma douleur; Mon coeur souffre au dedans de moi."

19. Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?
19. Voici les cris de la fille de mon peuple Retentissent sur la terre lointaine: L`Éternel n`est-il plus à Sion? N`a-t-elle plus son roi au milieu d`elle? -Pourquoi m`ont-ils irrité par leurs images taillées, Par des idoles étrangères? -
19. Injany, ny feo fitarainan' ny zanakavavin' ny oloko noho ireo izay monina any an-tany lavitra manao hoe: Moa tsy ao Ziona va Jehovah? Moa tsy ao aminy va ny mpanjakany? Nahoana no nahatezitra Ahy ireny tamin' ny sarin-javatra voasokiny sy tamin' ny zava-poanany?
20. The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
20. La moisson est passée, l`été est fini, Et nous ne sommes pas sauvés!

21. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.
21. Je suis brisé par la douleur de la fille de mon peuple, Je suis dans la tristesse, l`épouvante me saisit.

22. Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
22. N`y a-t-il point de baume en Galaad? N`y a-t-il point de médecin? Pourquoi donc la guérison de la fille de mon peuple ne s`opère-t-elle pas?
