The Covenant Is Broken
1. The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
1. La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l`Éternel, en ces mots:

2. Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
2. Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et parlez aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem!
2. Mihainoa ny tenin' izao fanekena izao ianareo, ary mitenena amin' ny olon' ny Joda sy amin' ny mponina any Jerosalema,
3. And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
3. Dis-leur: Ainsi parle l`Éternel, le Dieu d`Israël: Maudit soit l`homme qui n`écoute point les paroles de cette alliance,
3. Ary ataovy aminy hoe: Izao no lazain' i Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely: Ho voaozona izay olona tsy mankatò ny tenin' izao fanekena izao,
4. Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
4. "Que j`ai prescrite à vos pères, Le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d`Égypte, De la fournaise de fer, en disant: Écoutez ma voix, et faites tout ce que je vous ordonnerai; Alors vous serez mon peuple, Je serai votre Dieu,"

5. That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
5. Et j`accomplirai le serment que j`ai fait à vos pères, De leur donner un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, Comme vous le voyez aujourd`hui. -Et je répondis: Amen, Éternel!

6. Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
6. L`Éternel me dit: Publie toutes ces paroles dans les villes de Juda Et dans les rues de Jérusalem, en disant: Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et mettez-les en pratique!
6. Ary hoy Jehovah tamiko: Torio any an-tanànan' ny Joda sy any an-dalamben' i Jerosalema izany teny rehetra izany, ka lazao hoe: Henoy ny tenin' izao fanekena izao, ka ataovy izany.
7. For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
7. Car j`ai averti vos pères, Depuis le jour où je les ai fait monter du pays d`Égypte Jusqu`à ce jour, Je les ai avertis tous les matins, en disant: Écoutez ma voix!
7. Fa nananatra mafy ny razanareo Aho tamin' ny andro nitondrako azy nivoaka avy tany amin' ny tany Egypta ka ambaraka androany: eny, nifoha maraina koa Aho ka nananatra hoe: Ankatoavy ny feoko.
8. Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.
8. "Mais ils n`ont pas écouté, ils n`ont pas prêté l`oreille, Ils ont suivi chacun les penchants de leur mauvais coeur; Alors j`ai accompli sur eux toutes les paroles de cette alliance, Que je leur avais ordonné d`observer et qu`ils n`ont point observée."
8. "Nefa tsy nankatò izy na nanongilana ny sofiny, fa samy nandeha tamin' ny fisainan' ny fo ratsiny izy; noho izany, hataoko mihatra aminy ny teny rehetra amin' izao fanekena izao, ilay nasaiko nataony, nefa tsy nataony."
9. And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
9. L`Éternel me dit: Il y a une conjuration entre les hommes de Juda Et les habitants de Jérusalem.
9. Ary hoy Jehovah tamiko: Misy tetika fikomiana hita ao amin' ny Joda sy amin' ny mponina any Jerosalema.
10. They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
10. Ils sont retournés aux iniquités de leurs premiers pères, Qui ont refusé d`écouter mes paroles, Et ils sont allés après d`autres dieux, pour les servir. La maison d`Israël et la maison de Juda ont violé mon alliance, Que j`avais faite avec leurs pères.

11. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
11. C`est pourquoi ainsi parle l`Éternel: Voici, je vais faire venir sur eux des malheurs Dont ils ne pourront se délivrer. Ils crieront vers moi, Et je ne les écouterai pas.
11. "Koa izao no lazain' i Jehovah: Indro, Izaho hahatonga loza aminy, izay tsy azony handosirana; ary na dia hitaraina amiko aza izy, dia tsy hihaino azy Aho."
12. Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
12. Les villes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem Iront invoquer les dieux auxquels ils offrent de l`encens, Mais ils ne les sauveront pas au temps de leur malheur.
12. "Dia handeha ny tanànan' ny Joda sy ny mponina any Jerosalema ka hitaraina amin' ireo andriamanitra izay efa nandoroany ditin-kazo manitra; nefa tsy hahavonjy azy akory ireny amin' ny andro fahoriany."
13. For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
13. Car tu as autant de dieux que de villes, ô Juda! Et autant Jérusalem a de rues, Autant vous avez dressé d`autels aux idoles, D`autels pour offrir de l`encens à Baal...
13. "Fa araka ny isan' ny tanànanao ry Joda, no isan' ny andriamanitrao; ary araka ny isan' ny lalamben' i Jerosalema no isan' ny alitara naorinareo ho an' izany zavatra mampahamenatra izany, dia alitara handoroana ditin-kazo manitra ho an' i Bala."
14. Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
14. "Et toi, n`intercède pas en faveur de ce peuple, N`élève pour eux ni supplications ni prières; Car je ne les écouterai pas, Quand ils m`invoqueront à cause de leur malheur."
14. "Koa aza mivavaka ho an' ity firenena ity ianao, ary aza manandratra fitarainana na vavaka ho azy; fa amin' ny andro izay hitarainany amiko noho ny fahoriany dia tsy hihaino azy Aho."
15. What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
15. Que ferait mon bien-aimé dans ma maison? Il s`y commet une foule de crimes. La chair sacrée disparaîtra devant toi. Quand tu fais le mal, c`est alors que tu triomphes!
15. Hanao inona ao an-tranoko ny malalako, fa efa nanao ratsy niaraka tamin' ny maro izy, ary ny hena masina dia nesorina taminao? Raha manao ratsy ianao, dia mifaly.
16. The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
16. "Olivier verdoyant, remarquable par la beauté de son fruit, Tel est le nom que t`avait donné l`Éternel; Au bruit d`un grand fracas, il l`embrase par le feu, Et ses rameaux sont brisés."
16. "Hazo oliva maitso sady misy voany maha-te-hizaha no nataon' i Jehovah anaranao; tamin' ny fihorakorahana be no nandrehetany afo taminy, ary notapahina ny rantsany."
17. For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
17. L`Éternel des armées, qui t`a planté, Appelle sur toi le malheur, A cause de la méchanceté de la maison d`Israël et de la maison de Juda, Qui ont agi pour m`irriter, en offrant de l`encens à Baal.
17. Fa Jehovah, Tompon' ny maro, Izay namboly anao, no nanambara ny loza hanjo anao, noho ny ratsy nataon' ny taranak' Isiraely sy ny taranak' i Joda, izay nahavoa ny tenany ka nahatezitra Ahy, dia tamin' ny nandoroany ditin-kazo manitra ho an' i Bala.
Plot Against Jeremiah
18. And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
18. "L`Éternel m`en a informé, et je l`ai su; Alors tu m`as fait voir leurs oeuvres."
18. "Ary nampahafantarin' i Jehovah ahy izany, ka dia fantatro; tamin' izany dia nasehonao ahy ny fanaony."
19. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
19. J`étais comme un agneau familier qu`on mène à la boucherie, Et j`ignorais les mauvais desseins qu`ils méditaient contre moi: Détruisons l`arbre avec son fruit! Retranchons-le de la terre des vivants, Et qu`on ne se souvienne plus de son nom! -
19. "Fa izaho dia tahaka ny zanak' ondry na omby izay entina hovonoina; ary tsy fantatro fa izao no tetika nataony namelezany ahy: Aoka hosimbantsika ny hazo mbamin' ny voany, ary aoka hofongorantsika hiala amin' ny tanin' ny velona izy, mba tsy hotsarovana intsony ny anarany."
20. But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
20. Mais l`Éternel des armées est un juste juge, Qui sonde les reins et les coeurs. Je verrai ta vengeance s`exercer contre eux, Car c`est à toi que je confie ma cause.
20. Nefa, ry Jehovah, Tompon' ny maro ô, Izay mitsara marina, ka mamantatra ny voa sy ny fo, aoka ho hitako ny famalianao azy, fa aminao no efa nanambarako ny adiko.
21. Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
21. C`est pourquoi ainsi parle l`Éternel contre les gens d`Anathoth, Qui en veulent à ta vie, et qui disent: Ne prophétise pas au nom de l`Éternel, Ou tu mourras de notre main!
21. Koa izao no lazain' i Jehovah ny amin' ny mponina ao Anatota, izay mitady ny ainao ka manao hoe: Aza maminany amin' ny anaran' i Jehovah, fandrao matin' ny tananay ianao,
22. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
22. "C`est pourquoi ainsi parle l`Éternel des armées: Voici, je vais les châtier; Les jeunes hommes mourront par l`épée, Leurs fils et leurs filles mourront par la famine."
22. "Izao no lazain' i Jehovah, Tompon' ny maro: Indro hofaiziko izy, ka ny zatovo ho fatin-tsabatra, ary ny zanany lahy sy ny zanany vavy ho fati-mosary;"
23. And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
23. "Aucun d`eux n`échappera; Car je ferai venir le malheur sur les gens d`Anathoth, L`année où je les châtierai."
23. "Ka tsy hisy hiangana izy; fa hahatonga loza amin' ny mponina ao Anatota Aho amin' ny taona hamaliako azy."
